Hello! I'm Katie, and I offer online literacy tutoring lessons! I specialize in K-12 reading and phonics tutoring, using Orton-Gillingham methods, and also have training in the Hochmann writing intervention and cognitively guided math instruction.

Every lesson is tailored to a student's individual needs and interests, and moves through a variety of activities to minimize boredom. I am available to tutor students in Reading and Writing across the K-12 spectrum, and in Math grades K-5.

A sample 60 minute phonics lesson schedule with me includes:

* A sound drill where we practice increasingly complex spelling and sound patterns
* Decoding practice "game"
* Encoding practice - writing activities
* A five-minute movement break
* Students reading a decodable text, to integrate focus skills with targeted spiral review
* Comprehension practice via a read aloud of the student's choice

Each activity is personalized to match a student's interests - if they love Mario, we will play with Mario-themed game boards, if they love fairies, we’ll read books about fairies, etc.

More about me:

I earned my bachelors degree in History from Harvard University, and a masters degree in Childhood Education from Pace University, and just finished up my second masters' degree through the University of Edinburgh. I have eighteen years' experience as a classroom teacher and instructional coach, primarily working in the K-8 space. In my career I have worked as an ES and MS general education classroom teacher, an ES and MS instructional coach, and an ES and MS principal. I specialize in quickly raising achievement through targeted interventions; I have had students grow .75 years worth of growth after one six-week intervention cycle!
