Hello, I'm Josh! Through my five years as an educator, I’ve amplified my passion for the art of teaching and the Science of Reading. What’s made my students excel and grow is my enthusiasm for learning and passion for teaching. I find joy in each lesson I teach, and my students have responded in a positive way. Through this, I have been able to build a successful rapport with my students and their families. In addition to this, I have used my extensive knowledge of the Science of Reading to create interventions to turn struggling readers into lifelong learners.
Before my professional career officially began, I was fortunate enough to study under some of the great literacy minds that our region has to offer. This comes from training and volunteering with The Reading League since their 2018 Annual Conference and their members’ work as professors at SUNY Oswego. Through this, I’ve utilized their “6-Step Lesson Plan” to craft interventions for explicit direct instruction during my time as a reading specialist and classroom teacher. This has been a successful venture in building readers who can decode with strong accuracy, as I have been able to progress through teaching the six-syllable types, with students retaining each skill they learn.
Over the last five years, I have been able to grow my knowledge on the Science of Reading through various trainings with The Reading League’s Online Academy, LETRS’s training (Volumes One and Two) at OCM BOCES, and the Science of Reading MicroCredentials through SUNY New Paltz. I am always looking for ways to continue my growth as it can only benefit the students.
I look forward to strengthening the existing skills of the students I'll be tutoring. Happy Reading!
