With a shift from leveled literacy to the science of reading, children need strong phonics instruction to be able to decode words and build reading fluency. I am well versed in different reading interventions that I have seen work with struggling readers. I have been teaching using Wilson Fundations for 5 years now. A sounds first approach is what I take to get readers ready to sound out words and give them the knowledge to decode just about anything. Working in New York State, I have worked under common core for many years now. I am well versed in the standards that students must master at each grade level and using that as a benchmark tool to measure progress.
