Hi there! I’m Shannon.
I'm a best-selling novelist under a pen name and I've been a professional writer for over 20 years. My industry experience spans journalism, radio, international travel and teaching, copywriting and editing, and running marketing departments. I hold a highly competitive Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and have spent my career crafting everything from brand strategies to whirlwind romance novels with a strong focus in mentoring and tutoring up and coming readers and writers.
My teaching experience started in high school, where I provided editing services and one-on-one coaching sessions to many of my classmates. I continued this practice through my university years, and upon graduating, moved abroad to teach English for two years in western Europe. Today, I offer public speaking services to local universities and high schools in NYC, covering topics ranging from using AI in your writing to using storytelling in your business strategy. Feel free to ask for a copy of my booklet AI vs Writer's Block if you'd like a peek into my style, tone, and strategy when teaching.
My Tutoring Approach:
I believe that every student has the potential to be an excellent writer and an effective reader. My sessions are structured around a combination of interactive discussion, personalized feedback, and practical exercises. For students working on academic writing, I emphasize clarity, structure, and argument development, going far beyond simple structure guidelines and citations.
For creative writers, I focus on storytelling techniques, character development, and refining your unique voice. My goal is not just to improve a student's writing but to help that student navigate the reasons behind each change, personalizing the edits in a way that can be retained forever.
I believe in a positive feedback structure. I will never provide strictly negative feedback to a student because I think there is potential in every writer.
