My name is Lawrence Tsao. I have been teaching in public and charter school in Mathematics for Middle School for 5 years. This is my 6th year teaching and currently teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Physics. I obtained my masters in Middle Childhood Education 5-9 at the Relay Graduate School of Education and obtained my bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, CA. I started my education career as an Americorps member for City Year tutoring and working as a teaching assistant for a 4th grade classroom in East Harlem, NY. Then, I did a teaching fellowship for the Brooklyn Lab Charter School as a 6th grade Math Teacher for one year. Then started working as a full time Middle School Math Teacher at multiple charter schools the last 4 years while also obtaining my masters degree simultaneously. All my classes have been from grade 6-10 and each class was about 20-30 students.
My teaching method and pedagogy is to break down math content using videos, hands on activities and real world applications with clear and explicit examples students can relate to. I have used all types of curriculums from Mindset Mathematics, Common Core, and Illustrative Mathematics. I have always enjoyed teaching math and developing student's understanding to make it fun, hands on and meaningful in their lives. I will make sure math is not only fun but engaging so students can share what they learn with their family, friends and back at school.
