When I began teaching I originally taught children with learning difficulties and found that I liked the idea that children learn in different ways. I also did a lot of tutoring and learned quickly that all children learn in different ways and the key to their success was to tap into that difference and make it work for them. Sometimes i found that the difference was not just academic. Quite often it was the ability to help a child become more organized and more responsible for their own work. The idea was to make a child more confident about his learning abilities and help the child feel more in control and less lost. Self confidence goes a long way in improving grades.
The last three years I have been substituting. I take any grade from K -12. Sometimes I am not sure of my ability to do the work but I always say when I am unsure, and then say lets learn together. This creates a bond between the class and myself and its amazing who steps to the forefront to help us all out and we do learn together. I like to create ways to make learning more fun for all kids and sense of humor goes a long way At the same time I am very familiar with the common core and have worked with it in all classes. The bottom line is I like kids and they like me and I feel that everyone can be successful in school in one way or another.
