About Sherri

Bio

My experience with teaching & tutoring started in 1972. Teaching 5th grade was my first assignment & then I pursued my degree in deaf education and taught deaf students and sign language for many years. I can help adults who are preparing for state tests.
Music can also be incorporated into my lessons. I can teach UKULELE and have also incorporated my music skills into my lessons using my guitar and banjo. (I am not able to teach guitar and banjo).

My experience with teaching & tutoring started in 1972. Teaching 5th grade was my first assignment & then I pursued my degree in deaf education and taught deaf students and sign language for many years. I can help adults who are preparing for state tests.

My teaching techniques are creative, flexible and include personal attention to detail. I LOVE teaching and will assess each student and then proceed with an individual plan. I am successful with young individuals as well as adults of any age.
Lastly, I am a licensed LPN. I received my license while in the US Army Reserves. This enables me to offer help with the TEAS, HESI A2 and ASVAB. Presently, I am doing online teaching with an emphasis on all three tests. I have focused my last 10 years on preparing students for the TEAS, HESI A2 and ASVAB.

I was in the Army Reserves for 13 years and have been a certified teacher since 1972. I am able to help with all portions OF THE ASVAB. My teaching and military experience has helped all my students pass this test!!

I am certified in New York State with elementary education, grades K-6. I have been teaching phonics since 1972. I use the Wilson program to help teach phonics. It is a phonetically based program.

I taught speakers how to pace themselves, engage the audience, practice but don't memorize speeches and how to improve enunciation and articulation. I was also a public speaker for many years and so I feel my experience can help others.

American Sign Language is one way for people to communicate in a tactile way. As a Teacher of the Deaf, I have had years of experience in this subject. I use a variety of books, games and handouts. Also, I taught Sign Language for many years all over New York State.

I have a BA with a minor in 7-12 Social Studies. I also have certification to teach Social Studies to deaf and hard of hearing. I taught Social Studies for three years in a self contained 5th grade classroom. I also taught Social Studies for another 6 years in a multi-age, self contained classroom to students in grades 5 through grades 8.

I have taught sociology to students who were deaf. I also tutored students who took sociology 101 in college. Lastly, I took sociology courses in college and received A's.

I have worked with special needs students for several years. My experience includes students with learning disabilities, deafness-blindness, expressive & receptive language deficits & auditory processing problems. I have 6 cousins who have special needs. Growing up I spent time with all of them.

I have worked for over 25 years with students ages 4-17 who have had speech impairments. This included working on improving expressive & receptive language skills; improving fluency and articulation skills. Some students had very little speech so techniques such as sign language were used to develop and expand speech skills.

I am certified to teach N-6, elementary education and have taught for Questar III for over 32 years. I helped students prepare for the New York State ELA, Math and Social Studies exams.

I have a current LPN license as well as a teaching certificate to teach. I have worked with adults for over 25 years and have found it very satisfying. I have tutored many students/adults who were preparing for standardized tests such as the TEAS and HESI A2 and have had excellent results. I use various techniques to help students pass. I feel my experiences, education and expertise will help any student become successful in passing these tests. . Since these tests were developed by educators, I know as an educator/nurse myself, what it takes to prepare for a standardized exam for students entering nursing school. As of December 2019 , I have a 100% track record. I'm ready to help you pass!!!!

Such a passionate tutor

Sherri made me feel like I was in safe learning environment. She made it easy for me to grasp the concepts of what we were going over and made sure I was comfortable with the pace we were going in. I really appreciate the passion she puts into teaching and admire the way she uplifts me when I have accomplished something. It helps me feel reassured and on the right track. She is the nicest, most understanding person ever. Even just after one session with her I felt comfortable with her as if I have been working with her for a long time. You really wont find better than her. Sherri will really attend to your needs and even give you resources to really make sure you have all you need to study and understand the material. She pays a lot of attention to what YOU need and gives you exactly that plus more. 10/10 !!!!!!

Sherri is an amazing tutor. She is kind and patient and really has helped me to feel more confident for my TEAS exam she doesn't make me feel stupid. She is great for my learning disabilities and my hearing loss she repeats things as much as I need and never gets annoyed and she also signs with me. She has been great at helping me feel more confident in math , English , and science.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

We went over the math section of the ati teas. She went over each question step by step and made sure I understand the work. She was patient and kind. She very organized. She wrote down everything we did and gave homework on basic stuff.
