Hi, I’m Corin! I love helping students discover their “aha” moments. With over five years of experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a Master’s degree in GIS, and a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, I bring a strong academic and real-world foundation to my tutoring. In my GIS work, I’ve built interactive hazard maps for emergency management agencies, processed LiDAR and aerial imagery to create 3D models, and developed custom geospatial analyses supporting emergency management projects.
Before my work in GIS, I was a certified resource teacher who taught Algebra, Geometry, and STEM subjects to middle and high school students in classroom and small-group settings. I specialized in supporting students who had historically struggled in math. One school year, I worked closely with 18 seniors who had been unable to pass the state proficiency exam; 16 passed after our sessions and were able to graduate on time. Experiences like these taught me how to meet students where they are, build confidence, and help them achieve tangible results. Over the past three years I’ve also worked as a private tutor, bringing the same individualized, goal-focused approach to one-on-one sessions.
My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, and hands-on. I begin each session by identifying a student’s strengths, challenges, and preferred learning style to customize lessons. I use guided practice, step-by-step explanations, visual aids, and real-world examples to make abstract concepts concrete. Large problems are broken into smaller, approachable parts, with modeling and feedback to ensure mastery rather than memorization. I check for understanding frequently, celebrate progress, and adjust the pace to fit each learner. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and developing confidence. I’m approachable, easy to reach, and genuinely excited to help each student reach their full potential.
