Hi, I'm Brandon from Los Angeles! I'm an artist, educator, and a continuing student of life. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnomusicology - Jazz Studies: Performance Concentration, so you might have guessed that I love playing music, especially jazz and the styles that came from it, but also marching music and many other styles. More particularly I play drums, so I'm good with rhythms, and my musical skills connect with my love of numbers & math which became apparent to me when I started learning to read and write music. I've been teaching for 10 years, so I've learned a lot about how to balance the importance of learning material correctly while still having some fun. The key to my teaching method is building on the students' prior knowledge, by getting to know them, and using that information to help connect specific dots between disciplines for a more personal understanding of the material. My experience has shown me that this makes things more exciting for the students, and as a result, they tend to care more about the information, subject, and doing well in the class. I usually set learning goals for a season, and base the pathway to reach them around the specific tasks required for class (or with music, the students' learning goals such as repertoire).

I love teaching & tutoring because when I was a student I was exceptional but still needed help, and I always appreciated those who could assist me, so much that I grew the desire to do the same and help students junior to me whenever I had the chance. It began in my community, where I learned, grew, served, and still work. Now I'm looking to pay it forward to others ready to learn while embarking on my own journey of seeking higher knowledge and greater understanding in new places.

I have always had my own way of interpreting simple equations and analyzing the numbers to find alternative methods for solving problems. That approach has yielded a greater comprehension of how numbers and numerical systems can work, which I use to hel

Drums

Drums

I have amassed 10 years of experience teaching (core style & show style) marching percussion to groups between 5-30+ students. I have taught several 1-on-1 drum set lessons with students of ages 4-19 years old within that time. In each setting, I have utilized sheet music and oral traditions (reading and playing by ear) as necessary to ensure students receive the best learning results to reach goals.
General Music

General Music

After studying with the prestigious faculty of UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music, I have attained further experience in performing, composing, arranging, producing, teaching, and coordinating/leading bands. Broad stylistic taste and a strong preference for quality are testaments to my level of art appreciation, which fuels my endeavors to create the best art as a performer and teacher. Also having been surrounded by the best in the world has given me insights as an educator that any student can benefit from.
