About Stuart

After becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) on a cardiac telemetry unit in 1992, I continued my education attaining my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing and subsequently my Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in 1999, achieving numerous awards and graduating Magna Cum Laude. Upon becoming an NP, my first position was in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CT Surgery) in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was subsequently recruited to the prestigious Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan where I was named the Senior/Chief NP in CT Surgery. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to managing the medical and surgical care of 2 floors of 40 or more patients while concomitantly directing the other NP's and Nursing staff of the CT unit as needed. I was also responsible for directing the physicians who had to rotate thru my unit as part of their training.

Arriving in Las Vegas in 2003, I initially built a failing Private Practice owned by a local physician. Shortly thereafter I was named the Director of 3 of his affiliated clinics. With a desire to return to acute care, I soon accepted a position with a large Medical Group as a Hospitalist. I continued in that position for 6 years till my assistance was requested in filling a vacancy in Private Practice. I continued in that position for some years.

In transitioning to teaching, my first position began at Northwest Career College teaching A & P to aspiring Medical Assistant's. I also became a certified CPR Instructor and currently continue to teach CPR classes for the college as well as privately.

My gift and my passion however has always been Cardiology! Cardiology can be very intimidating; not only to the novice involved in Cardiac Care, but even to the experienced professional who is new to this area of Nursing/Medicine. As I teach other areas of Med-Surg, I teach Cardiology so that one UNDERSTANDS what is happening and why! This is paramount in grasping the insight to the small muscle which keeps us alive, and also can cause our entire body to fail. Not only have I created my own Power Points regarding the Anatomy & Physiology of the Heart, but also a complete guide to understanding the different rhythms which you will be exposed to on cardiac telemetry. After you learn the different rhythms, I then introduce you to a host of practice strips which we review together so that you will NEVER forget how to determine the differential rhythms and potential outcomes. I not only highlight potential causes of rhythm disturbances but also explain in depth the medications that treat these conditions, such as beta blockers and ACE Inhibitors.

My teaching method is unique as my experience has given me in-depth insight from both sides of the fence, both as an RN, and then subsequently as an NP. As a result, my insight allows the student of Nursing to gain a completely different perspective on the application of care for the patients they are charged to help. It also gives the Nursing student an avenue to peer into the future and visualize the transformation they themselves can look forward to by furthering their Nursing education.
In addition, my ability to help the student "understand" medical concepts vs. constant "memorization" allows a deeper conceptualization of difficult topics. The end result is the student's grasp and understanding of the physiology of the interdependent body systems thus leading to a dramatic improvement in grades.

While attaining my Master of Science degree, I found I had the unique ability to write. As one of my readers stated to me, " is not just WHAT you write, but the manner in which you write it that I enjoy". I have thus had the privilege of being published in many nursing journals read by RN's, NP's, and PA's. Writing is an art. My ability to write in a cohesive manner engages the reader. This is a critical necessity sought by professors reading your work. I have edited numerous papers for students who need to critically review research as well as those who just need to write a "good" Nursing paper.

Given my degree accomplishments, knowledge gained by my vast nursing and medical experience, and teaching aptitude, I welcome the opportunity to share with students that which I have learned over the course of more than 20 years. My teaching experience encompasses being a Preceptor for N.Y. University Nurse Practitioner students in the Cardiothoracic Surgical unit in Lenox Hill Hospital; as a College Instructor training Medical Assistant students here in Nevada; as a tutor to Medical Students on topics in Biochemistry and acute care patient management; and as a CPR Instructor.
My teaching manner focuses on helping the student to UNDERSTAND the material vs. memorizing. Understanding a topic remains with the student forever, while memorizing tends to be short-lived.

When you are considering the cost of a private tutor, consider this: you have chosen a career path which is extremely competitive. Schools of Nursing are able to hand-pick which students enter from a huge field of applicants. YOU MADE IT IN! Don't compromise your grades! You can be certain that your grades and GPA most certainly count! Why let a heavily weighted exam send your course grade into a spiral? Let me help you to be successful at your chosen profession! I look forward to helping you achieve!

Given my qualifications in Medicine, Nursing, Writing, and Algebra, my rates can vary. However I continue to offer an affordable base rate of $50./hr. Take advantage of my knowledge and learn to understand Nursing from an experienced professional! Don't put it off! I look forward to watching you achieve!

Thanks for very much for your kind words! My goal now, after a lifetime of treating patients, is to help new students of Nursing and Medicine gain a better understanding of the issues which affect the patients we are charged to assist. I am happy when YOU are happy and have received, retained, and completely understood the concepts I teach you. This is my pleasure!

"Great tutor!"

- Susan, Menlo Park, CA on 11/3/16
Stuart replied on 11/15/2016

Susan's desire to have a better grasp of cardiac care, interventions, and the interpretations of differing EKG rhythm strips caused her to seek my assistance. We continue to work together with the Cardiac Power Points I have developed. I know that any patient who happens to be cared for by Susan is indeed fortunate!

"Great Tutor"

- Sarah, West Hills, CA on 10/28/16
Stuart replied on 11/15/2016

Not only did Sarah learn the concepts I taught her well, but our time together also included some great moments of laughter. It broke the tension for us both as she was on a very tight schedule to learn an enormous amount of material for one exam, and then a comprehensive final just a week later. She did so well on her exams I knew that I had reached my goal. I measure and value my work by my students' successes! I will always recall my tutoring Sarah with a smile and a laugh.

"Knowledgeable and patient tutor"

- LEDROIN, Las Vegas, NV on 10/23/16
Stuart replied on 11/15/2016

Ledroin had reached a road-block in her attempts to write a thesis statement which would subsequently lead her into the body of her work. My guidance gave her the lift she needed which helped her create the work of art which good writing is. I give credit to her determination to not just be a student, but be a GREAT student!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have always excelled in math. Not just because I was good at it but also because I enjoy it. I find math to be challenging as well as interesting.
Algebra 1 is necessary to move forward in high school as well as college.
Once you capture the understanding of Algebra 1, much of the following math courses become easier to tackle.
I can help you to understand the math required of you.

Anatomy and Physiology are two of the most prominent subjects required to have superior knowledge in the quest to become a Registered Nurse, a Nurse Practitioner, and/or certainly in the practice of Medicine.
As a Nurse Practitioner who has practiced in a multitude of disciplines in: Cardiothoracic Surgery; as a Hospitalist; and in Private Practice, I have extensive experience which few others have.
I routinely instruct my students how to "understand" vs. "memorizing" whenever possible to help you to internalize the material and to NEVER forget it. As a result, your grades will soar!!!!
I look forward to assisting you in this quest!

Elementary Math

I am able to help those who are having issues with math from elementary school up to and thru Algebra 1. My experience was earned when my own son was experiencing much difficulty with Algebra. With my help, he graduated middle school with high grades in math.
I look forward to assisting you to do the same.

I have a Master of Science degree, however I have been published several times in medical journals over the years. Writing comes easy to me and I am extremely critical of incorrect grammar. I do believe that the utilization of correct grammar is very important when trying to get ones' message across to readers. I have written many things of late regarding our current political candidates and have received numerous compliments from my readers, noting that " is not what you said, but how you said it that counts."

I have earned numerous degrees, beginning with an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. I subsequently became a Registered Nurse working on a cardiac telemetry unit. I continued my education thereafter, receiving my Bachelor's degree and then my Master's degree. I also attained, concomitant with these degrees, many honors such as the Student Excellence Award of the Northeast Region. (Only one student receives this out of the entire student body). In addition I always graduated Magna Cum Laude; worked as Senior NP in CT surgery; as a Hospitalist in Nevada and subsequently worked in Private Practice. My knowledge of medicine and Nursing is without compromise. I truly enjoy giving back some of the vast amount of knowledge I have attained over the years to those desirous of expanding their knowledge base.

After graduation as an RN in 1992, given my love for Cardiology, I began work on a cardiac telemetry unit. After graduation as an NP in 1999, I was fortunate to obtain a position in Cardiothoracic Surgery. I subsequently was recruited to a very prestigious hospital in NY and named the Chief/Senior NP in CT Surgery there.
My expertise in Cardiology is incomparable! I not only have the expertise in Cardiology you will not find elsewhere, but also have my own Power Points to help you to progress from Anatomy & Physiology, to learning how to read EKG's with subsequent EKG strips for you to practice with me to evidence the comprehension of your new knowledge. Where your professor leads off, I pick up!!!! I also prepare you to understand everything you need to know regarding Pacemakers; what the difference is between "sensing and capture"!
So, learn from THE BEST!!!! Don't be intimidated by Cardiology! I teach you to UNDERSTAND it; NOT MEMORIZE it!!!!
I look forward to seeing your eyes open wide with understanding!!!!

As a tutor for Nursing Students and those who are already RN's but require a more in-depth knowledge to practice efficiently requires a very strong background of Physiology.
Given my years of practice first as an RN, and then as Chief/Senior Nurse Practitioner, I have unique experience on both sides of the fence implementing the Physiology needed in the practice of medicine. In addition, in Cardiothoracic Surgery, my knowledge and UNDERSTANDING of Physiology was definitively required for me to competently act in the medical and surgical management of my acutely ill patients. Prescribing and managing IV drips with medications that alter the Physiology of an individual's adaptive system was paramount in my position.
I welcome and am pleased to help those who are having difficulty with this subject to seek me out to assist them in their quest to attain high grades!

I am adept at Algebra 1 which has helped me to attain my Master of Science degree as a Nurse Practitioner. I graduated both undergraduate school and graduate school Magna Cum Laude.
I can help make your math classes more understandable thus helping you to manage the other courses you face in school a bit easier.

As I have noted in my profile, I have a Master of Science degree. Throughout the years I have written articles on topic for Nursing journals and Physician Assistant journals. They were all subsequently published. Writing is a skill that one either has a capacity for or one that can be learned. I have found that I have a great capacity to write and continuously receive compliments on various subject matters. Of late, my subject matter has been comprised of our current political process and for which I have been benefit of many compliments. It has been noted to me in paraphrase, that it is not necessarily what I say but how I say it.

Stuart skillfully and succinctly reviewed all aspects of a comprehensive H&P, breaking down each piece so that it did not seem as overwhelming. He was able to help explain the application of the exam steps to real patients, it honestly felt like the beginning of true mentoring. Extremely positive experience.
