I recently retired from teaching after 16 wonderful years in the Clark County School District and then teaching in Taiwan for 16 months. My passion for teaching students is still as strong as the first day I walked into the classroom. I taught 4th grade for the first 2 years of my career and then taught 13 years of 3rd grade. I considered myself to be very professional, responsible, and a man with integrity who always put the individual needs of his students first. I continually modeled my joy for learning and fostered relationships between all classmates to use our individual differences as strengths. I feel strongly about developing a great rapport with every student and taking an interest in their life.

My experience comes mostly in Elementary school subjects and my favorite subject to teach is Math. I love the challenge of taking a new student and observing the way they learn, so I can use the best methods to teach them. I love playing with numbers and my enthusiasm will spread to my students. It is so satisfying when you see the hard work pay off and the "lightbulb" goes on in their head. Writing is another area I love to teach creative skills. Of course, I love to teach reading comprehension and fluency. I consider myself to be an expert in using higher-level learning skills like inferencing and proven questioning strategies to dig deeply into the meaning of a book.
Map reading and Geography are more of my passions and I'd certainly love to teach some American History!
Also, If you are an adult, I have a TESL degree and can help you immensely with your everyday English conversational skills.

Through my extensive teaching of vocabulary. I've learned that it's very important to connect new words to prior knowledge. Intelligent and Concise Tutor

We have been using Mr. Steven for a few months now and have seen excellent results. Our daughter is home schooled and we we're looking for solutions to improve her results from the experience and Mr. Steven has been pivotal in doing such. We would recommend Mr. Steven to anyone in a similar scenario or looking for tutoring of any degree in his grade range. Thanks!

Very Patient and helpful tutor

Steven K. is working in person with my 6th-grade granddaughter who lives in Las Vegas. Steven is very patient and helps her organize her classwork, stay on top of her homework, and motivate her to work to her potential. Her mother and I are very happy having Steven K. as her tutor.

Knowledgeable and patient

My son really enjoyed his lesson. They went over quite a few reading tecniques. We made a plan on what he will need to work on and what we will go over in his next session. My son is looking forward to his future visits.

Awesome teacher

Steven is a wonderful tutor who is extremely patient as well as knowledgeable. I hired him to help my some improve his math skills as he was struggling with a few concepts. Steven was able to get those concepts across in a short order and now my son is doing so much better with his multiplication and division skills. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs help in any area because he develops a positive relationship with his students which results in trust leading to easier understanding of difficult concepts. I give this tutor 5 stars.
