About Ronald

Hello! My name is Ron, and I'm an illustrator and freelancing graphic designer here in Las Vegas. I'm a former CSN alumni (and also a former tutor at that school). I've tutored students in using Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign. I love print design and worked on a variety of designs from apparel, business cards, flyers, logos, illustrations, posters, vector design, and even tradeshow banners. I use Adobe Creative Cloud and use the current releases of each program.

If you're not used to working on a Mac, that's not a problem ! I can guide you through OSX and teach you some neat things along the way. This will help lessen the burden while you are learning about Adobe's Creative Suite.

I have no problems with meeting students at their home or in a public place (CSN campus, library, Starbucks, etc.) Please let me know in advance when and where the meeting will take place. If you are unable to attend a tutoring session, please let me know well in advance. There will be a charge for canceled appointments.

I look forward to meeting with you and help you improve your skills !

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have used Adobe Illustrator for several years to create many things from logos, apparel designs, business card designs, flyer layouts, and even vector illustrations. Print knowledge and setting up files for print with this program is something I know very well.

Vector graphics can be resized without losing quality. As with Adobe Photoshop, I have confidence with the software programs that I use in tutoring my students.

Adobe InDesign

I have used Adobe InDesign to create various projects from brochures, flyers, newsletters and layouts for ads and magazines. I possess great confidence with using this program along with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Creating page layouts with InDesign is ideal for those that want to integrate files from Photoshop and Illustrator into a publication document.

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is a very versatile program. Aside from retouching photos, I also know how to fine tune a photo and enhance the exposure, setting curves, and preparing it for print or web. It is also a very handy illustration program. What's also nice about this program is that you can import graphics from Illustrator and enhance it even further.

I use this feature to being in vector graphics to set up on shirt designs and various comps to present to a client or a class project.

Drawing

I have studied art during my years in high school and have been assigned to Advanced Placement in my senior year. Artistic skills were also important as classes were taught prior to my graphic design courses in Tempe, Arizona. Art/Illustration courses were also part of my curriculum here at the College of Southern Nevada.

Graphic Design

I graduated from the College of Southern Nevada with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Graphics. I have also previously tutored graphic design students and helped them understand how to use some of the features in Illustrator and Photoshop.

Aside from my degree, I have worked in a print shop and have been freelancing around town.

I am also an active member of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Artists) here in Las Vegas. AIGA is a nationally known organization which holds events for designers in Las Vegas and abroad.

Macintosh

I have used the mac platform during my days in tech school in Arizona from 1994-1996. Back then I used OS 8.5 on a Beige G3 Macintosh desktop. From there, I attended school here in the College of Southern Nevada and have been using it since. I'm very good with using OSX and the programs that come with the operating system.
