My name is Jerry and I've been tutoring all levels of HS and college Math and Physics for the past 7 years. I enjoy helping students, and my students like the way I explain hard to understand concepts in Math and Physics. I believe in a "simplistic" approach to teaching Math and Physics. I strive to teach Math and Physics without a lot of theoretical jargon and I teach a methodical approach to solving problems.
While at the University of Arizona, I majored in Nuclear Engineering; I have a BS in Nuclear Physics and a MS degree in Nuclear Engineering. For 20 years I worked at a Nuclear Weapons factory as a Sr. Nuclear Safety Engineer. I was responsible for keeping the operators safe while they handled fissionable (nuclear) materials. I worked with the operators and educated them on the hazards of handling nuclear materials that were the primary component of nuclear weapons. I moved to Las Vegas in July 2002 to work on the Yucca Mountain Project and then transferred to the Nevada Test Site where the US detonated nuclear weapons during the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's.
In 2010 I decided to retire from my engineering profession and do what I enjoy the most; help students and tutor. I enjoy making a difference in a students curriculum and being a part of a students progress. We will do several problems, because that is the way I believe, a student will remember the material well enough to score high marks on his or her exam. I work with primarily high school and college students in subjects such as AP Physics, AP Calculus, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Geometry and Algebra and Chemistry. I believe that one of my best assets is how well I relate to my students and my ability to teach difficult topics. I teach with a style that I would want in a tutor if I was being tutored in Math or Physics. Send me an email on the Wyzant.com site and let's get started. With me as your tutor, you will achieve the grades you want. My name is Jerry and I've been tutoring all levels of HS and college Math and Physics for the past 7 years. Jerry has been tutoring my son in Precal and I just can't say enough good about him. He brings an enthusiasm to the subject that is engaging and has gotten my son so motivated. He has instilled a confidence in my son that he can excel and that is invaluable.
Jerry was very kind and patient and simplified the lesson. He also had some print outs for me. I appreciated it. I highly recommend Jerry to anyone who needs help.
I am a college physics student. I am currently taking Physics 151 and it has like learning a foreign language. Jerry has been very helpful and patient. I highly recommend him!
Jerry D. has tutored my Granddaughter for about 5 months in pre-calculus. She was having so much difficulty her self esteem was almost non-existent. Jerry discovered that her main problem was the lack of fundamental basics of geometry and algebra. Jerry started with the basics. Repetition and patience and guess what my Granddaughter looked forward to the tutoring sessions and her self esteem was no longer a problem nor was her understanding of Pre-calculus. Jerry has many teaching skills and genuinely wants to help students succeed. Jerry can teach different approaches to a problem until he finds the one that makes the most sense to the student. Thank you for helping my Granddaughter
Jerry, is so good with instruction. He takes the extra time to know the learners ability to solve any math problem and then works from that. He's very encouraging for the student and builds confidence as he teaches.
Jerry provides great summaries of each tutoring session with Eric. He is patient and and doesn't just show Eric how to do the items. He tries to ensure that Eric does work on his own.
Jerry was punctual and very accomadating. He was able to see the wholes in skills and do some very fine tuning in one/first meeting! We will continue to use him as we need him.
Jerry evaluated my daughter's calculus knowledge for almost 90 minutes and came back with rave reviews. Jerry also offered help that is above and beyond the normal expectations of tutors. Thank you Jerry for a positive experience.
Jerry has been a great help to me this past summer with preparing for the college placement exam for my school, which was the Accuplacer. Even though I haven't taken precalculus for over a year, Jerry was able to refresh my memory on crucial concepts and helped reinforce them in order for me to retain them in memory. He not only told me about the topics, but he actually helped me understand several things ranging from trigonometric identities and analytical geometry. And after was all said and done, I ended up passing the Accuplacer and placed into a higher math class than I once was enrolled in. Jerry even took the time to look up the topics I needed to know for Calculus at my specific college (UNR), and introduced me to the first few, but essential, topics of calculus, such as derivatives and limits.
Jerry is very flexible with his schedule and won't mind being patient to make sure you understand what you're trying to learn.
After working with another tutor for the past few weeks it had become apparent that I was not learning as much as I could. I saw that Jerry is highly recommended and decided to see if he could help me with physics. After just 20 minutes Jerry explained concepts to me that I have been trying to grasp for months. Jerry is very patient and always explains the 'how's' and the 'whys'. It is very apparent that he loves to teach and really enjoys taking about the material and the history associated with it. I feel add if I got way more than my money's worth. If you are need of Physics help he is for sure the guy to ask. I can only guess that he would be as helpful in other subjects as well.
Jerry helped me for the last 5 months in a very difficult physics class! I've tried tutors before and never felt as if they actually benefitted me much , but not with Jerry . Jerry is extremely knowledgeable in the field of physics, he always came fully prepared, he knows what he is teaching very well and helps show you the easiest way to understand the material, step by step he walks you through the areas you are struggling with, and last but not least, Jerry actually cares about your grade and you succeeding in the class. I highly recommend Jerry to ANYONE struggling in physics, he will truly help turn your grade and understanding of the subject matter around.
I set this up for a friend taking a test. Jerry was quite helpful and will continue in test prep evaluation and assistance. He was able to spot the areas of needed improvement for my friend so he could study more efficiently moving forward. We will continue with him for the upcoming test.
My son has connected well and respects Mr. Jerry as his tutor. Mr. Jerry has been patient and responsive to my son's mathematical needs. In listening to Mr. Jerry converse with my son, he does an excellent job with thoroughly explaining problems, but then questions my son and expects him to explain to ensure understanding. In addition, Mr. Jerry models the use of the academic vocabulary for math. He is dependable and I feel he truly does want my son to be successful in mathematics just like me.
Very patient, and obviously knows what he is doing, which is hard to find these days. He started with basics Physics problem (I am an AP Physics student) and from there was able determine the best courses of action. He is knowledgeable, patient, and continually strives to help his students achieve more.
Jerry asks students what they are currently studying in their class. He makes every effort to help students become more successful in their classes.
Really help on what's your weakness and strength. Goes step by steps on my studying. Really nice and I recommend him! :)
Jerry invests a great deal of time and resources to ensure my son is receiving the help he needs. Thanks Jerry!
Has the patience of a saint.
Great teaching methodology.
Assists with tough math problems, in a way that
it makes sense.
My son raved about Jerry! Jerry was very patient with Connor and for the first time in this chapter of honors geometry, Connor was comprehending the work. Looking forward to the next session on Tuesday at 3:30 to 4:30.
My son has a difficult time sitting down to do homework, and Jerry is patient and understanding. He helps my son get his work done.
Math has never been my friend, but Jerry teaches ways to break it down into easy steps! Thank you Jerry.
Jerry is a great tutor and has helped my son tremendously. My son has been working with Jerry for two weeks and his grade in Algebra 2 has gone from a 28% to a 74% in just two weeks! Jerry is patient and always checks to make sure my son understands the work before moving forward. Thanks, Jerry!
Thank, Mr. Jerry, for working with my son. I have seen him gain more confidence in his math work. Looking forward to working to work with you over the summer and next school year. Thanks!
Jerry has been helping my son with algebra 1 and I allowed my son to make the decision on whether he wanted to continue with the tutor I selected. Well, they established a good relationship and understanding early on, so we have used Jerry exclusively throughout.
Jerry seems to be very patient and conveys the needed information simple way so it can be easily understood by the student. My has improved his grade in and understanding of algebra and we will continue to use Jerry's services as we move forward. Looks like we made a very good choice in Jerry.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BS and MS in Physics and have solved ordinary differential equations many times during my past work experience. Much of my course work dealt with Partial Differential Equations such as Laplaces Equation and the Schroenger Wave Equation.
