"We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself."
First, Wyzant is filled with exceptional tutors so it's pretty tough to go wrong on here! The art of tutoring is as diverse and unique as the individuals who undertake it. I know who tutors who are subject area experts, able to effortlessly and expertly assist students in a select few areas. On the other hand you have tutors that are good at a variety of subjects yet master of none. Some value a personal connection with students, others prefer to maintain a professional distance. My reason for writing this? It's crucial that as a student or parent of a student you select a person with the style that works best for you!
My name is Dyane and I consider myself an excellent and unorthodox tutor. My style? Whatever works for the student! I pride myself on the my ability to adjust my tutoring style into a format that my students will understand. Some students respond to powering through problems and learn along the way. Others perform better when they understand the concept. Some students may respond favorably to a lecture style format. Others need more visual aids in order to commit information to memory. I'm extremely personable and believe that this greatly contributes to the efficacy of my tutoring. In order to find the best style for the student, I need to understand the student themselves, what makes them tick and what motivates them. My passion for helping others fuels my desire to tutor.
I've tutored both formally (for UNLV's Academic Success Center and Super Tutors) and informally (private tutoring and family) for over 7 years. I've tutored a wide variety of subjects and I'm just as adept tutoring Middle School Math as I am Organic Chemistry II. I have extensive experience tutoring students for the ASVAB, GED, College Algebra I and II, Geometry, and General Chemistry (121 and 122). I have a strong science background and enjoy tutoring General Biology, Organic Chemistry I, etc. Recently I've tutored students for the TOEFL exam and I thoroughly enjoy it as well.
Again you really can't go wrong on here, these tutors are fantastic. I'm unique in that I work very hard. I'll make certain to give you work in between our sessions to reinforce the topics we covered and encourage retention of that knowledge. I'm almost always available for questions through email and I make certain to respond as soon as possible. If you have any more questions for me, please feel free to contact me and I'll be sure to get back to your right away!
Thanks for your time and Good Luck!

It is been great to work with Dyane, he really helped us to improve our English, he is very fun and nice. I absolutely recommend him!
Dyane, is great knowledgeable tutor. He really cares, and genuinely wants to see you succeed. He went above and beyond to help me and accommodate my situation. Highly recommended!
I like the fact that Dyane went out his way to make sure I understood all the material in my course
I had a few tutoring sessions with Dyane for my Core Math Praxis Exam. He is an excellent tutor and I highly recommend him. There were many topics that I literally have not seen in over 20 years! Dyane has a very good way of working through problems with the student together and on their own and explains things in a way that is easy to learn. I went up 20 points from my last exam and passed the Praxis. I would recommend him to anyone I know in need of a Math tutor.
I do highly recommend Dyane for being the best Tutor. My son has improved in his Math- Algebra 1. His getting A's now. Good job Dyane.
My son really likes you and not only learns but has fun, what else can we ask for? Thank you.
Dyane has been working with my daughter for a very short time, but I can already see an improvement in her attitude towards math. She says he is extremely easy to understand because he explains things in everyday language. This is my daughter's 4th tutor in three years but the first tutor that seems to be getting through to her. We have a very tough schedule to work around and Dyane has kept up with flying colors! Thanks Dyane!
Dyane helped me get a head start for my Organic Chemistry class. He is very accessible and easy to work with. His teaching seems adaptable to various learning styles. I have learned a lot within the few weeks we had together. If I ever need to be tutored again, I know who to ask.
My daughter said so far so good. She is learning more than she could learn in school right now.
Update: Dyane has tutored my daughter faithfully and patiently for over four weeks now. As a results of his wonderful tutoring, my daughter has pass her Geometry and Chemistry class in only a short period of time. I highly recommend Dyane if you really want good results and great success! Thanks again Dyane for all your help.
We found Dyane to be a great tutor. He was very creative when presenting examples in a manner that was interesting and on a level that my nephew could relate. His methods were memorable enough that my nephew learned how to complete the problems and he remembered the formulas better.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've helped several students ace the ASVAB test, particularly the Math section. I believe in working with harder Math material so that the actual test will be much more manageable. My students have all achieved above the minimum AFQT score for their respective military branch, which is crucial now that the military has become more selective. Achieving the minimum score may result in delays as applicants with much higher scores will be given preference.
Chemistry is the first science I tutored students in and my original major in College.(I would go on to minor in it). I'm highly skilled in regular, honors, and AP Chemistry for high school students. For college students, I'm able to skillfully tutor General Chemistry 1 and 2 as well as Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. I tutor Microbiology and Biochemistry on a case by case basis so please ask if you're interested in these subjects in particular.
College Counseling is absolutely crucial for parents wise enough to seek this out for their children. I've counseled 8 students now through the college application process and they've been accepted to universities such as UNLV, UNR, San Diego State, Oregon State, University of Oregon, and Marquette University. I've also helped students with the scholarship process, which is both extensive and intensive.
I sincerely enjoy tutoring students for the GED, as it's one of the first subjects I started tutoring. I love the challenge of preparing non-traditional students as this is one of the few subjects that requires constant shifting of tutoring styles to find a perfect medium for both tutor and student. I've successfully tutored many students in their GED pursuits as well. As long as the student arrives prepared, committed each session I promise to give 110% to help you succeed.
I have experience helping regents students pass their proficiency tests. I've successfully tutored students for the Science and Math portions of the proficiency. I also achieved high scores on the NV proficiency myself as a CCSD student.
I have experience teaching and cultivating study skills. I'm able to adapt and find the best study method that works for each individual student as well. Methods differ between subjects as well and I'm great at finding ways to help people retain information that best suits their learning style. When I worked in the UNLV tutoring center, I worked with many student athletes that had erratic or nonexistent study skills, which was the primary reason they weren't able to retain the information rather than a simple inability to understand it.
I have the necessary background to successfully help students succeed on the TEAS! I've taken the MCAT exam twice (received a 23 the first attempt and a 29 on the second attempt) and there is a strong correlation between the 2 tests. MCAT verbal section is extremely challenging, mirroring the reading and paragraph comprehension as well as the English section on the TEAS. MCAT Physical and Biological sciences also mirrors the Science section on the TEAS. I've tutored Math up to Calculus I, so I'm definitely prepared to tutor the TEAS math section. Lastly, I've helped a TEAS student before as she needed a certain score to enter the nursing program at CSN(I believe it was 80% in reading and 60% in the other sections)
