I graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Master's degree in Chemistry and I graduated from Southern Oregon University with a Bachelor's in Chemistry. As an undergraduate student, I discovered my passion for learning and teaching students. I started tutoring as an undergraduate student and continued to tutor in chemistry throughout graduate school. I know chemistry is hard to learn, but I believe it can be fun to learn about and a major accomplishment to comprehend difficult concepts. My goal as a tutor is to make sure you leave each session with a better grasp of the material from which you started, and for you to hopefully think chemistry is cool too.
I've tutored students one-on-one in person pre-pandemic, but after have exclusively tutored online through other platforms. My usual approach is to have students explain problems to me to grasp their understanding. Depending on where they are at, I will review the topic and explain key concepts, then show example problems and how to solve them. After walking through a couple problems together, I have the student complete the problem by themselves so they can determine their level of understanding and ask clarifying questions. I have helped students successfully pass the ACS Chemistry exams and raise whole grade levels.
I have 3 years of tutoring experience in general chemistry, and a year's experience in high school chemistry. I've taught high schoolers, and college students of all ages.
