Hello! my name is Christy and I graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with Magna Cum Laude honors with a Bachelor’s in Education, Elementary & Special Education. With 26 years of classroom teaching experience spanning all K-12 subjects, I have worked with students of all backgrounds and abilities, from pre-k to high school. My career features deep specialization in both English language learning and special education. I know how to break down complex concepts, adapt to diverse learning styles, and accommodate unique educational needs. I don't just teach the material—I teach the student, using creative, interactive methods that build lasting academic independence and self-esteem.
Each student processes information differently, and there is no one-size-fits-all path to academic success. I specialize in turning frustration into confidence. Whether your child needs general subject support, help navigating English Language Learning (ELL), or specialized strategies for neurodivergent minds, I create a patient, structured, and encouraging environment where they can truly shine and gain confidence.
My specialties and expertise are in beginning reading and writing. This includes phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, and creative writing mechanics. Additionally, I have extensive knowledge of K-12 Mathematics: Guiding students from elementary math, to Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry by using clear, step-by-step problem-solving methods, anchor charts, and scaffolding that bridges deficits. Biology & K-8 sciences are areas many students struggle in. I like to make science engaging by breaking down complex concepts like cells, genetics, and ecology into understood concepts.
My Approach every student learns differently. I focus on identifying knowledge gaps, reducing academic anxiety, building strategies, implementing accommodations, and creating an encouraging environment where questions are always welcome. Every child is capable of amazing things with the right support system.
