Bio

I'm Delaney, and I am a current senior at St John's College in Santa Fe. I have a passion for mathematics, and aim to pursue a teaching license after I graduate. At St John's, I've gained an extensive understanding of geometry through Euclid's Elements and a strong sense of Calculus through Newtons Principa. The discussion oriented framework has given me greater communication skills, which I consider my strong suit.

I have love Algebra since I was a child, and through my education I've learned a number of ways to present algebraic concepts. I believe mathematics should be accessible to everyone, and I strive to create learning environments where it is safe to explore, play, and discover for yourself how mathematics works.

I have experience doing peer tutoring all throughout my middle and highschool education, and I have experience working with students with ranges of neurodivergence, including ADHD and Autism. These experiences have informed my educational approach, with a focus on accessibility.

I believe it's okay to be wrong, and learning from our mistakes and understanding why we make them is essential to growing.

One of the things I've gained from the St John's College mathematics program has been the way it shows many perspectives can achieve the same knowledge. For example, one concept I know from algebra can be presented in a completely geometric way. This understanding of multiple perspectives on mathematical concepts allows me to find the best approach for my student.

I believe a compassionate and well informed teacher can change a subject from something terrifying to something exciting. I am available to schedule lessons and am eager to learn together. Reach out for any clarifying questions or to schedule a lesson

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra has always been a passion of mine and I began tutoring it while I was still enrolled in algebra 1 myself. I continued to tutor my peers, and helped several students with ADHD understand why algebraic formulas work the way they do. I would say Algebra is my strongest subject to teach, and the one I have the longest experience in.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra has always been a passion of mine and I began tutoring it while I was still enrolled in algebra 1 myself. I continued to tutor my peers, and helped several students with ADHD understand why algebraic formulas work the way they do. I would say Algebra is my strongest subject to teach, and the one I have the longest experience in.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I tutored math all throughout middle and highschool, and spent specific attention to a student with ADHD who had trouble with fractions, arithmetic and PEMDAS. Through the years of working with that student, I gained experience making mathematics accessible to those with learning difficulties. These foundational mathematics skills are developed through practice, and a sense of safety is something I priorize to facilitate that practice.
Geometry

Geometry

Through freshman year at St John's College, I worked through the majority of Euclid's Elements, one of the historic early textbooks on geometric. The discussion orientation and practice working through the proofs in class gave me a solid foundation with which to explain geometry. It's not just about remembering rules to follow, it is about understanding where the rules come from.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Algebra has always been a passion of mine and I began tutoring it while I was still enrolled in algebra 1 myself. I continued to tutor my peers, and helped several students with ADHD understand why algebraic formulas work the way they do. I would say Algebra and Pre-Algebra is my strongest subject to teach, and the one I have the longest experience in.
