I believe that everyone can learn and that we are able to learn our entire lives. Working with the Literacy Council for the last 15 years has strengthened that resolve. Part of the support of a tutor is enhanced by the relationship that allows for coaching that helps a student/learner achieve his or her goals.

I am, if nothing else, a good coach. I have coached athletics, including basketball, tennis, track and baseball, helping teams achieve winning records many times. I am an Academic and Professional coach through my training and work with the Structure of the Intellect, which provides support for the development of at least 90 discrete learning abilities. My experience has shown me that we all learn differently, and the SOI approach creates a way for success, once an individual knows how he or she learns.

Students will be tutored at an increasingly challenging level, beginning where they are able to function.

I have been a tutor and coordinator for the last 10 years to help the New Mexico Youth ChalleNGe Academy's cadets with work toward getting their GED. This year, HiSET has been added, so our experience has been broadened to that publication. I have also worked briefly as a tutor with the Roswell Regional Job Corps in helping students there with high school equivalency attainment with the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion), a GED alternative.

The GED has been the focus for students here at the Roswell Literacy Council as well, and I have been a GED tutor here also.
