I am a dyslexia specialist who believes in the dyslexic advantage. I help my students discover and believe in their unique abilities for learning. I am a dyslexia specialist who believes in the dyslexic advantage. I help my students discover and believe in their unique abilities for learning. As a PhD graduate from the University of Minnesota in Education, reading, and learning disabilities, I am a highly qualified teacher/tutor focused on the unique characteristics and challenges of students with dyslexia. For over 25 years I have worked with k-12 and adult learners with dyslexia and ADHD encouraging and building their individual strengths while helping them overcome obstacles to their learning.
I have full state credentials in Reading, Special Education and Language Arts and certification in the Orton Gillingham approach to teaching reading.
As an individual tutor, I enthusiastically look forward to working with my students on the journey toward appreciation of their own unique strengths and helping them build tools for using those strengths to overcome challenges to learning. I consider both students and their parents as vital contributors to the planning of a successful learning experience.

As part of my university work, I have taken over 10 classes in the teaching of reading including methods such as phonics instruction. I have used this method in teaching reading and planning instruction with students in grades 1-12 and even some adults. I have also taught university classes preparing teachers to teach reading where an understanding of the place of phonics in this instruction was crucial. I have also developed comprehensive phonics curriculum for students with specific learning disabilities in reading.

My career has revolved around the teaching of reading. This has included personal teaching and tutoring of students in grades K-college as well as preparing classroom teachers and specialists to teach reading. My focus is on the understanding and use of reading/literacy as a tool for enjoyment and function. I’ve even developed and delivered workplace literacy programs in various large manufacturing settings!

Georganna Is Wonderful!

My son has dyslexia and he was really struggling in reading/writing before G. He was in his school dyslexia program in the morning, but he was still having difficulty. Then we found G. She has truly been amazing. She has helped him tremendously. She is patient while still pushing him forward to be better, I can hear him laughing during his tutoring, she picks articles for him to read that are about soccer because she knows that is what he loves, when he messes up she corrects him and helps him get it right so he remembers it for the next time, and she praises him when throughout his hour. She has worked with his teachers at school to make sure they are all on the same page so that he is learning the best way possible for him, and with her help, he has excelled. He has gone up so many levels in reading and he ASKS to read in class now. She has been such a blessing to our family and to our son. We are so thankful that we found Georganna. 5 Stars!!

Flexible!

My 7th grader has been working with Ms. Georganna for a few months now, and we’ve had such a great experience. I really appreciate how flexible she is when life gets busy or there are technical issues—it makes such a difference. Even though my son isn’t exactly the type to get super excited about anything school-related, he actually enjoys his time with her! One of the things I love most is that she uses reading materials that tap into his personal interests, like cars and becoming a pilot, which keeps him engaged. I’m excited to see how much his reading skills and vocabulary continue to grow under her guidance!
