I am a licensed teacher, who recently finished their second year of teaching at the highest ranked middle school in Chicago. I taught science to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and have my Masters degree in teaching with a focus on middle school science education. I also served as a UChicago Fellow, studying what creates an effective learning environment. Before this, I attended Bowdoin College, the #7 liberal arts college in the US, where I studied neuroscience and Japanese. I bring a strong scientific background from teaching, academia, and having worked in the biotechnology industry.
I am now pursuing my MFA in creative writing at the Warren Wilson Program for Writers. My focus is on speculative fiction, I often write about people trying to make sense of impossible situations. I believe strong storytelling can and should be leveraged in education. Empowering students to find their voice through writing affects their performance in every subject. My ideal learning environment is one in which students feel that learning about the world around them is like reading a good story. A good lesson feels surprising, yet inevitable.
