I totally enjoy teaching English as a Second Language to all ages. I used to teach Russian Grandparents, as well as young people from all over the world. I've also taught English to business men. Not only do I enjoy teaching ESL, I can also help you with your GED test. One of my loves is theatre and I've been in plays in community theatre as well as receiving a degree in theatre. Since I am now retired, I have plenty of time to spend with my students to help them achieve their goals. My paid jobs have always been working with people and writing newsletters. I've had experience in public relations, the health field, with volunteers, with all ages of students. Namely, I enjoy helping others to understand what they need to know. I have a great deal of patience with learners because I know there are subjects that I've had trouble learning. Recently, I returned from the Peace Corps, Romania, where I taught English as a Foreign Language. I currently volunteer at a local technical college, helping to teach refugees English.

ESL/ESOL

In graduate school I took a course in teaching ESL at CU, Denver. I started teaching English as a Second Language with Berlitz in Los Angeles. I continued teaching classes when I lived in St. Paul. Students were from all over the world. Again, I taught classes at Red Rocks Community College, and for Spring Institute. Ages of students ranged from college age to grandparents. I also tutored from my home. One student was a teacher trying to pass an exam to teach calculus (in English). While I was a librarian at a private school I tutored English speaking students in English classes. At present I volunteer to help refugees learn English. I am passionate about helping foreign language speakers learn and understand English. Communicating is such a joy.
Swimming

Swimming

Swimming can be an exhilarating experience, but some children, adults, can be very afraid of the water. Once this fear is conquered, the person can continue to learn different strokes, and enjoy the activity of swimming which is a very healthy exercise, especially for older people who can't put weight on their knee and other joints. I passed my WSI in college taught swimming right out of college, and for a Girl Scout Camp in Oklahoma. I also taugh adults working in a bank, how to swim. I taught my children about swimming strokes (they learned to swim in school). As an adult, I swim at the Y. I can help you learn for your own enjoyment, or to pass Red Cross swimming exams.
Theater

Theater

Attending a theatre production has always been a thrill to me, so I auditioned for some community plays. Many years later, I majored in theatre at the U of Colorado, Boulder. I interned at Su Teatro, teaching children how to act. My graduate project was how I would promote acting and the arts to disadvantaged students here in the Denver area. Acting can be a way of learning about yourself, as well as entertaining others. I can help you with monologues for auditions as well as working on characters in a play that you may be having trouble with.
TOEFL

TOEFL

I have taken a graduate course in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I've taught for Berlitz, Diversified, Spring Institute, Red Rocks Community College, and I've tutored for Emily Griffith Technical College, and tutored private students who needed special help in English.
