New Mexico Tech (Master's)
I got a BS in Mathematics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 1991. After teaching high school for three years in El Paso, Texas, and teaching middle school math in Belen, New Mexico, I returned to New Mexico Tech to obtain my Master's Degree in Mathematics. I taught at the Valencia branch college of the University of New Mexico for approximately five years. I taught all levels of algebra, Calculus, and discrete math. After retiring, I have tutored in my home - mostly algebra.
I use the inquiry method by leading the student to solutions on their own by asking questions to draw upon the student's knowledge. I also use lots of examples. I teach students to recognize groups or classes of problems and what approach should be used for that class of problems. I think learning to classify problems by type is one of the most valuable tools in learning mathematics.
I am a lifelong learner, and continue to take courses online. I enjoy learning and I especially enjoy doing math problems. I recently took Calculus III online and got a Certificate of Distinction. This was, of course, review for me and also fun. I got a BS in Mathematics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 1991. Pansy is exactly what we were looking for in that she is patient, knowledgeable, and provided lots of encouragement. My daughter appreciated the way each step was explained as well as how thorough Pansy was. We are grateful!
I saved writing this till the end of the semester. My daughter improved a full letter grade. Pansy is very patient and knows her subject matter. She helped my child immensely. I was especially grateful that she could come to our house for the lessons. Thanks again.
Pansy really helped my son with geometry and was patient with him. I hope u will be available next school year thank u again.
Pansy is being a great tutor. She has being working with my daughter since the end of September and I observed great improvement in my daughters understanding of the subjects and her grades. Pansy not only is great teaching the subjects, but she goes home and select material that maybe helpful for my daughter. She brings the materials at the next class. Pansy cares for her student. Pansy is very knowledgeable, patient and dedicated tutor. We will continue working with her. We are very fortunate that we were able to find her. Thank you Pansy for helping my daughter.
Thank you, so much.
Pansy has been working with our daughter over the past 3 weeks. She is patient and provides supportive guidance and instruction in the areas of precalculus. Her tutoring has been very helpful. Our daughter looks forward to each session.
With an unhelpful algebra 2 teacher at school, Pansy had really helped my understanding and confidence in this subject. Really easy to get a hold of, really flexible with scheduling, and every minute of her tutoring helps. Very patient with confusions and is able to explain in different ways for a clear understanding. Really hopes the best for everyone she tutors, and is fun and easy to work with. I will always go to her with any of my math problems.
Pansy has been tutoring my son for about a month. He has shown signs of improvement in his math class, and most importantly in his confidence. Pansy recently started working with my daughter. My husband and I are pleased with her services.
Would like more review on how to prepare for test taking. Overall my daughter enjoys her tutoring lessons with Pansy. Wish I could afford to have my daughter meet with Pansy two to three times a week. Availability is great.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's Degree in Mathematics and have taught algebra at all levels.
