Hi there, I’m Rebecca! I recently completed my doctoral training in Mathematical Sciences at Portland State University and have moved to Albuquerque for work. I love how math can connect subjects across the academic world and help us understand the world around us. As an undergraduate, I minored in both Computer Science and Studio Art, reflecting my interest in applying mathematics beyond pure theory and my appreciation for the arts and humanities.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies, I gained diverse teaching experience as a supplemental instructor for college students, a K–12 tutor at a local tutoring agency (including college test preparation), a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses, and a private tutor for middle school students with learning differences.
Although math has always come relatively naturally to me, I also struggled with certain concepts in my college courses. These experiences have helped me empathize with students facing challenges and taught me the importance of having a knowledgeable, patient, and caring instructor. My goal is to help every student feel empowered to succeed in math in a way that aligns with their individual needs and goals.
I see each student as a whole person and approach every session as a conversation shaped by their unique strengths, and learning styles. I believe it is the instructor’s responsibility to adapt their teaching to the student, rather than expecting every student to learn the same way. I also prioritize practicing new skills during each session so students can build confidence and tackle problems independently. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to working with you!
