Degree:
Bachelor's of Science in Astrophysics, University of New Mexico
Certifications:
Former Certified Educator (NMPED) with credentials in secondary science and mathematics instruction.
Teaching Experience & Context:
My professional background spans nearly a decade of combined experience in both traditional classroom teaching and personalized tutoring. I have extensive experience as a high school classroom educator, including a significant tenure with Albuquerque Public Schools. In this role I would lead seminars for students to learn through debate, trial and error, and practice. Student-centered and interactive learning is essential to how I teach.
As a tutor, I am highly experienced in working with older adolescents and young adults, specializing in foundational physics and mathematics, as well as highly advanced coursework at the Advanced Placement (AP) and introductory college levels. My background encompasses a wide spectrum of learning environments, from large-group settings to one-on-one academic interventions.
Pedagogical Approach:
My instructional philosophy is firmly student-centered. Whether in a busy classroom or a private tutoring session, I approach learning through a collaborative, seminar-style technique. Rather than relying on traditional, passive lecturing, I require students to actively engage with the lessons.
I act as a facilitator, guiding students through complex mathematical proofs or physics concepts using targeted questioning, collaborative problem-solving, and conceptual exploration. This method forces students to articulate their reasoning and confront their misunderstandings in real-time, building the genuine comprehension and critical thinking skills required to succeed in high-level STEM courses.
