Hi, I'm Durga! I'm a junior at the University of New Mexico pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology and on the pre-med track. Through multiple dual-credit courses and AP classes, I was able to complete two years of college coursework while in high school, which allowed me to join my university as a junior. My experience with dual credit and AP classes has increased my knowledge in chemistry, biology, math, English, etc.
Although I do not have any paid tutoring/ teaching experience, I have spent ample time helping friends understand concepts in science and math. Moreover, I was the caption of the Anatomy Division for my Science Olympiad team. In this role I was in charge of teaching my teammates the material, and I quickly learned to break down the complex topics into smaller, understandable pieces. Both experiences taught me that there are multiple ways to explain a concept, however, not everyone learns the same way, and need different explanations to understand a concept.
Through my experiences, I've learned that every student is different, so I try to create a patient and encouraging learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions and being confused. Whether someone is struggling with homework, needs help preparing for exams or just needs someone to break a concept down to bite-sized pieces, I'm willing to work with them to increase their confidence and boost their grades.
