Bio

I have been teaching for 16 years in Morris County. I have taught second and third grade general education and inclusion. I have a lot of experience teaching phonics and reading skills. I am a patient and kind person and really love my job.

Some of my favorite programs are Explode the Code, Project Read and Recipe for Reading. Often I use Spectrum Math and Wordly Wise books to help students. I also spend a lot of time finding other materials to meet the needs of every child. I am looking forward to working with your child and watching them grow. Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I have been working with students with ADD and ADHD for the past 10 years in both an Inclusive classroom and through private tutoring. ADD doesn't mean that a child isn't smart or able to learn. It just means that they may need more help to stay focused on their work and extra help to organize themselves. Many ADD students often "miss" skills in their early years of school due to their focus problems. Tutoring in their early years is a great way to help them stay on grade level in school. Children with ADD and ADHD can achieve success with the right help

I have worked with many dyslexic students over the past 11 years. I am also trained in Project Read, which is an Orton Gillingham based program with a great success rate.

I have been teaching elementary students for 10 years. Skills learned in elementary school especially the early years are important for the rest of a student's life. Students need to have good reading and math skills in order to build on them in later years. Tutoring is a great way to help a child build a solid foundation for the rest of their education and beyond.

I have been teaching handwriting for over 13 years. I have experience with Handwriting Without Tears and loops and other groups. I also have experience strengthening muscles to improve handwriting and beginning handwriting preschool skills.
Phonics

I am trained in all strands of Project Read. I also use Explode the code and Recipe for Reading to help students improve their reading and phonics skills. I have a great deal of experience and success in this area. Helping students learn to read is my favorite part of teaching. Please contact me to discuss more.

Reading is my favorite area to teach. Young children often have trouble learning to read. I am trained in Project Read and I often us Recipe for Reading to help beginning readers. Patient and skilled tutor!

Kim was everything I could have asked for - friendly, patient, kind and skilled at knowing when to push forward and when to let my son lead the way into the lesson. We veered off the planned assignment and Kim was flexible and enthusiastic in adapting to a new way to approach a handwriting task that my son was more interested in. Highly recommend!

Patient and FUN!

When you're dealing with a child that has an issue reading, you want/need a tutor who is going to make the hour fun and interesting. That is what I have found with Kim L. I am so pleased with her and her methods. She is patient where she needs to be and pushes my daughter when she needs to be pushed while never stressing her out. With tutoring, as with most things when dealing with children, the personality needs to fit and that is what I have found in Kim.
