Hello! My name is Rachel and I am excited to work with you to reach your chemistry and/or math learning goals. I have extensive teaching experience in organic chemistry, differential equations, linear algebra, calculus from my time as a graduate student at the University of California - Berkeley (Cal), an undergraduate student at the University of Rochester, and as part of the Education team at a chemical software company. I have a passion for helping students feel confident in their learning journey and find excitement in the material they are trying to master.
At Cal I was a teaching assistant for organic chemistry (CHEM 12A), quantum mechanics (CHEM 120A), and an undergraduate computational chemistry course (CHEM 121). These experiences were in lecture settings, however I often worked with students in small groups or one-on-one outside of class. I was also part of a team of graduate students who spearheaded a 'Math Bootcamp' for incoming graduate students to help them review topics such as linear algebra, differential equations, and calculus before they began their first semester of courses.
At the University of Rochester, I was a teaching assistant for organic chemistry for three years, where I worked with small groups of students in a pear-led-team-learning environment to help them solve organic synthesis and mechanism problems. I tutored for organic chemistry, differential equations, and linear algebra both as part of the learning center and on a volunteer basis with a student organization on campus.
Now I am trying to put all that education experience to good use! If you think you're not a 'math person,' I want to work with you to help you feel empowered in your own learning and develop a growth mindset. If memorizing organic chemistry reactions has not been helping you with your exams and homework, I want to help you understand the underlying chemistry that those reactions and mechanisms rely on. I'm excited to go on this learning journey with you!
