I have been working with children and adults of all ages as a tutor for over 10 years. I have tutored children as young as four, all the way up to adult-aged learners who have needed assistance with their English speaking and writing skills. I believe in being very patient as a teacher and feel it is important to be firm, yet kind, in order to help students attain success.

My strengths, in an academic sense, are centered around reading, writing, public speaking, phonics and vocabulary. I possess teaching certification in all subjects grades K-8 with a focus in Reading and Writing. I have been a teacher in various settings, but very much enjoy working one-on-one or in small groups because of the ability to really connect with the students and pinpoint any trouble areas for improvement. I have taught children with special needs (IEPS) as well as ESL students in achieving personalized goals.

I am currently K-5 certified in NJ with 4 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. I have taken the Praxis: Content Knowledge text and am highly qualified. I have also been tutoring students in K-5 subjects for over 8 years.

I have years of experience teaching English Language Arts at various levels. I am most experienced in the K-3 age group but have also worked with students at a pre-k and adult levels. I am comfortable with Reader's Workshop and Writer's Workshop along with guided reading. I enjoy reading and writing as hobbies and have had my writing published in several poetry books.

I have my K-5 certification and have tutored ESL students for 6 years. I have worked with preschool students and elementary students who had just moved to the United States and needed help with their fluency skills and speech. I have also worked with Korean-American adults who needed extra help with their conversational English skills.

I have experience with Words their Way, a program helping students understand the complex way words are formed as well as the patterns that are established in the English language. I have also taught students in grades k-3 in reading and have used Running Records, Reading Levels and Reader's/Writer's Workshop methods to increase reading fluency and comprehension.

I am highly-qualified to teach Reading to students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade. I utilize current, practical and effective strategies to increase a child's abilities, along with knowledge of their interests to make learning fun and interactive.

I have been a classroom assistant for special needs students with IEPs for 4 years. I have also been a classroom teacher who has assisted students with ADHD, selective mutism, and anxiety disorders. I have been able to help these students succeed based upon achievable goals.

I am very familiar with New Jersey public school academic expectations regarding the Common Core Curriculum. I have used many techniques with students in the past (Songs, poetry, mnemonic devices, etc.) in order to help students retain information. I also headed a boot camp for NJASK testing which focused primarily on how to answer open ended questions and multiple choices questions successfully.
