I'm a former fourth and first grade teacher. I have substituted from Preschool to Grade 5 and taught basic skills in a Kindergarten setting, as well as, first through fifth grade. I am available to work with your PreKindergarten through Fourth Grade child in all aspects of elementary education. I'm a former fourth and first grade teacher. I have substituted from Preschool to Grade 5 and taught basic skills in a Kindergarten setting, as well as, first through fifth grade. I am available to work with your PreKindergarten through Fourth Grade child in all aspects of elementary education. I currently live and previously worked in the Washington Township School District (NJ). I have extensive knowledge of K-2 Fundations (phonics program) and Everyday Math (K-5). I've recently trained on the Science of Reading and am so excited about using these strategies to help your struggling reader decode words! I have been seeing great results with my students! Note: I recently worked in the public school system and therefore have been background checked.

I make learning fun through games, varied activities and my enthusiasm! Sessions are specifically tailored to your child. I make a new lesson plan for every session with your child's unique needs in mind! Sessions are different for everyone, but will usually contain a review of the previous session, several new or reinforced skills and a "practice" assignment. Homework help is also available. My schedule and length of sessions (one hour weekly minimum) are flexible.

I am available to tutor online, in your home or mine. I want to help your child learn and succeed!

Please note: I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. This means that if you cancel within 24 hours of the start of our Wyzant session, I will still assess the total session fee. I hold a Standard Teaching Certificate in NJ (K-8). I have 9 years teaching experience as a classroom teacher. I have years of teaching experience working with Kindergarteners through 5th graders in Math, Writing, Reading, and Fundations Phonics. I follow the Science of Reading for my phonics lessons.

I recently worked as the Basic Skills assistant in a Kindergarten setting. I was responsible for reteaching/reinforcing the phonics program (Fundations). I designed lessons and games to teach letter sounds/key words/letter ID. I now focus on an approach that the research has shown to help students learn to read more quickly. I have had great success using the Science of Reading approach mixed with Fundations Sound Charts.

During my Reading sessions, I focus on all of the strategies needed to comprehend a passage. That's why we read, right? Our goal is to read for an understanding. My sessions will focus on phonology, orthography, morphology, semantics, and syntax.

Students will be coached in expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative writing depending on the specific need.

My son loves his tutor he’s usually very withdrawn but one session in he opened right up to her. She encourages my son EVERY lesson and comes with soooo much energy different ways to teach his lessons. I recommend Barbara to anyone that’s looking for a tutor that gives 1000000% every session !!!
