Hi, my name is Dawn. I have a passion for teaching children and truly believe learning can be fun. I want my students to find the joy learning can bring.

Throughout the course of my career, I have had wonderful opportunities to teach diverse groups of students, including those who were gifted and those at-risk. As a result, I have become skilled at producing creative, multi-sensory lessons that accommodate multiple learning styles.

I am a certified Reading Specialist and Elementary Teacher with 22 years of teaching experience. I have taught in public and private schools in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. I have been a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach for 6 years. As a Reading Specialist, I have had the privilege of teaching students in the areas of phonics, spelling, vocabulary, reading, and writing. In my role as a Literacy Coach, I have provided many opportunities for teachers, to observe my literacy lessons including one-on-one and small group. I have also provided professional development Rider University students and teachers in the State of New Jersey.

I am trained in Wilson's Fundations program for kindergarten and first grade. I have attended classes at the Teachers College of Columbia University in NYC and have been trained in Lucy Calkin's Reading and Writing Workshop approach. I have experience teaching handwriting using Handwriting Without Tears, Fundations K and 1, and Zaner-Bloser. I have taught Singapore Math in grades 1-4.
