I am currently a freshman at Rutgers University–New Brunswick majoring in Information Technology and Informatics. I have a strong academic background, including AP Biology, AP Statistics, AP U.S. History, AP Computer Science Principles, and Honors Precalculus. Beyond academics, I have actively pursued opportunities to teach, mentor, and support students in different settings.
I have experience tutoring elementary-aged students, working with them one-on-one to complete assignments, strengthen areas of difficulty, and build confidence in their abilities. I have also served as a peer educator with Younity, where I developed strong communication and mentoring skills while working with other students. This experience taught me how to actively listen, explain information clearly, and create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Through my school's Peer Leadership Program, I also mentored and supported younger students, developing my leadership, patience, and ability to adapt to different personalities and needs.
Additionally, I have experience teaching Tamil to young children in a classroom setting. Teaching younger students has taught me how to keep lessons engaging, explain concepts in multiple ways, and adjust my approach when a student is struggling. Across these experiences, I have worked with students in classroom, group, volunteer, peer education, and one-on-one settings.
My teaching approach focuses on patience, encouragement, and understanding rather than simply giving students answers. I first identify what a student understands, then break challenging concepts into manageable steps using clear explanations, examples, and practice. I adapt my methods to each student's learning style and encourage questions and mistakes as part of the learning process. My goal is to help students not only improve academically, but also become more confident and independent learners.
