Hi - I'm Amanda! I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelor's in chemistry from Rutgers University. I also earned my Masters in Engineering (MEng) in Materials Science and Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Although I went on to pursue a career in the chemicals industry soon after graduating college, I knew that teaching and being back in the classroom was my passion. After working in industry for nearly 8 years at the time, I decided to become an adjunct professor at a private 4-year university, where I've been lecturing chemistry and general science for almost 3 years. While teaching, I've had the opportunity to work closely with college-aged students in small (< 25) class sizes and from many educational backgrounds and skillsets. I realize that traditional methods of learning don't always work for today's students, and I'm always happy to go the extra mile to ensure students' success. I've needed to bring creativity and active-learning styles to the classroom to get my students interested and competent in many difficult aspects of general science and chemistry. I've utilized hands-on approaches such as labs and demos, incorporated games to make concepts fun to learn, and connected concepts to real-world examples and case studies. Additionally, I've found that proper retention and grasp of material requires (1) initial introduction to concept, (2) in-class practice, and (3) reinforcement of concept after class. Given that my class sizes were small, I've had opportunity to provide one-on-one support to my students to help them succeed. Everyone learns differently, and I like to tailor individual needs with unique and individualized teaching methods. In addition to teaching, I've spent time mentoring and leading college-aged interns in my industry profession. I've also tutored general and organic chemistry for students needing extra help whilst at Rutgers. Please feel free to contact me to know how I can help you! I'm happy to work with you within my location or online.
