Hi! My name is Tina and I am a 26 year old certified educator with 4 years of teaching experience. In my career, I have instructed students in grades K-12 in reading and mathematics content. As a special education teacher, my focus has been on bridging gaps in learning and building foundational skills to help students meet grade-appropriate goals. My favorite thing about teaching and tutoring is witnessing the “aha moment” as a difficult concept finally begins to make sense for a student. My style involves using visual and hands-on learning activities to help students build procedural and conceptual knowledge.
I like to incorporate a multitude of strategies and learning styles to teach students there is more than one way to approach a math problem. I typically focus on procedure ( the how) before the concept (the why) and work to help students extend what they’ve learned to make connections to real world situations.
Building phonemic awareness starts with letter recognition and letter sounds. Once you’ve got that down, the next step is combining these letters and their sounds to create words. To do this, I typically use letter tiles, magnets, and other tools to help students identify letter sounds and create word families. Then, I’ll use emergent readers to help students build reading fluency and apply their newfound skills to reading.
