Born into a family of educators, including elementary school teachers, librarians, and a Deputy Chancellor, teaching is something I was born to do. I am a Vassar College alumni, obtained a Masters of Science in Elementary education, as well as extensive studies in Library Science and School Building Leadership. I have over 15 years experience teaching Upper Elementary Grades 3-5 with a range of roles including a classroom teacher, an Instructional Coach for literacy and mathematics, and a Library Media Specialist. My extensive background in teaching diverse student populations has strengthened my dedication to supporting all learners in the development of essential knowledge, deep understanding and skills. As well as, each students ability to work at high levels of thought on authentic tasks.
Presently, I am working in a high performing District 2 elementary school and working part-time as a tutor on homework support and state test preparation.
As a math instructor I look to establish students mathematical strengths in order to address misconceptions.
In literacy, I focus on student analysis of text and the synthesis of new ideas.
I have created and implemented numerous common core lessons and units of study that address the rigorous demands of the Common Core State Standards. Students that have worked with me have surpassed the performance expectations of their grade level and have exceeded in the growth percentile of their peers in class and on statewide standardized assessments.
I have worked as a permanently certified New York State Common Branch teacher for over 15 years.
I love teaching and working to support student in reaching their maximum potential. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with an array of students to help them to play a more active role in their learning process.
