Hello,

Do you need a patient, experienced and expert reading teacher to get your child/teen/young adult/adult on grade level reading or to aid in their comprehension? I have been an elementary teacher, Literacy Coach, Literacy Specialist, Parent Educator and Professional Staff developer for 20+years. I am available for private tutoring in reading, writing and other subjects. My specialty is reading acquisition and writing. I focus on increasing a young student's reading fluency, comprehension and decoding. Personally, I am a voracious reader of adult/young adult/children's literature. I struggled to learn to read as a child, and I am completely attuned to the frustrations readers encounter. Teaching reading has become a passion and mission that accidentally found me. My pre and post graduate education has always revolved around language and reading acquisition. My intentions were only to be an elementary classroom teacher teaching multiple subjects. Student feedback, parental feedback, data analysis and administrative feedback showed my methods have been consistently highly effective.

My personal experience learning to read, who struggled with Phonics, serves the population of readers who struggle with Phonics. It is a culmination of my life experience, lifetime of education, and personal student success stories that aid struggling readers. I have studied under New York Reading Reform, Bank Street College of Education, Teachers College of Columbia University, Nanci Atwell, Fountas and Pinnell. It is my deep understanding of the three cueing systems meaning (Semantic), Structure (Syntactic), Visual (Graphophonic), that allows me to adjust instruction as needed for each reader.

I have over 20 years collective years of teaching elementary in urban publi

Knowledgeable and well experienced

Ms. Diane is a blessing; she conducted a comprehensive evaluation of my kindergarten-aged child and honestly informed us that she performs above her grade level and does not require tutoring. Ms. Diane's distinctive teaching style includes the foundations of communication, vocabulary, and spelling. If someone is searching for a solid English language foundation for their child, I would suggest Ms. Diane.

Excellent writing teacher

Diane was my daughter's writing tutor this summer, and she is an exceptional teacher. She shared a structured process to help organize ideas and used this structure as the basis for the entire set of lessons, from baseline to the end product. In each lesson, she was patient, curious, kind and helpful. She also went above and beyond to suggest other accommodations and strategies that would be beneficial to my daughter at school. As a result of the lessons, my daughter improved her skills and gained confidence in her abilities and talents. I would highly recommend Diane!

Tutoring excellence!

Diane is a gem! She tutors with a broad base of education, knowledge, & experience. Her ability to share that information in a very understandable way is a credit to her as an experienced teacher. She is so committed to teaching reading to a diverse population of students. As a teacher, I have been searching for a tutor to help me build my early literacy skills. Specifically, she is helping me develop stronger reading, & phonics instruction. After my first tutoring session, I have several concrete ideas to put into practice. Diane is committed to every student's success. I appreciate her willingness to share the tools she uses within her own classrooms. For me, her teaching style reminds me of my favorite professors. I continue to want more! I am looking forward to continuing my tutoring with her.

Very kind and knowledgeable tutor

Diane had wonderful insight on the areas my son needed to focus on and she laid out an appropriate plan to address them. She gave him assignments appropriate for his grade level and did not “dumb down” her expectations for him which actually prompted him to work harder to achieve them for the next lesson. Very happy with this tutor.

Best decision ever...

It has been little bit close to 3 months that we are receiving tutoring services from Diane. In a short period of time, Diane has identified where my son’s gaps are, developed a lesson plan to eliminate the gap and diligently followed to ensure my son is caught up with his grade level requirements. Currently we have also started instructions on writing and we are seeing great improvement on that area as well. It is really hard to find a teacher that has the ability to explain the why’s and reasons of the rules rather than simply memorizing the words. Diane has been patient and worked with my son’s limitations and ensured that he reached his goals. Now he is a more confident speller and writer.
