My family background is French and Portuguese and I have visited France countless times visiting family and as a teacher guide for 28 years. I have proudly shared my love for French, its culture and history with over 200 students and adults as a tour guide.
Sharing and teaching what I love is my pleasure and passion. I have most recently retired as of 2013, so my availability is flexible. I have been teaching at Belleville High School for 36 years, all levels of French. I have attended many workshops throughout my career on teaching AP French as well.

Madame Irene is super patient listening to my very slow spoken French. She has a lot of experience with teaching French at different levels and is really helping me progress.
Great tutor, very patient and very responsible. My daughter is very pleased with how much she learns from Irene in her weekly sessions.
I wish that all teachers had Irene’s traits. She cares about her students and is very responsible. My daughter did not have a good foundation and was having trouble when she reached French 3. She was struggling to maintain a C and at the edge of failing quizzes and exams toward the end of first semester.
Luckily, I found Irene and started tutoring lessons. Not only is my daughter is more confident with the language now, but she also pulled her overall grade up by at the end of the school year. I highly recommend her as a French teacher. It is very hard to find a good language teacher, especially those teaching at a high level. We are fortune to find this retired French language teacher.
Irene is all you could want in a tutor and great friend! I feel confident in my French and am ready to travel to the French countryside.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
