Hello! My name is Pearl. I am a third-year clinical psychology PhD student. I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Psychology in 2020. While in undergrad, I occasionally tutored classmates and found a love for instruction. Three years later, I took the plunge and started graduate school. I have clinical experience working with young adults living with mood and attentional disorders that translates well to an instructional setting. I have received graduate-level training in college instruction, and last semester I taught an introductory statistics course to twenty undergraduate students. Additionally, I have engaged in goal-directed coaching with neurodivergent high school students.
As someone who used to get anxiety attacks in my AP Stat class but grew to prefer statistics over every other math topic I learned, I am sympathetic to those who struggle with this subject! I take a fundamentals-first approach to learning. Especially with statistics, ideas build on each other and without strong foundational knowledge, it can be easy to get lost later on. Over a semester of teaching, I introduce students to basic statistical terminology before introducing correlation coefficients, z-tests, t-tests, and chi-square tests. I am also familiar with SPSS and can incorporate tutorials on SPSS into lesson plans (great software to put on your resume). I can also flexibly tailor lesson plans to any areas of concern or specific learning goals. Even if you are not an aspiring statistician, knowledge of statistical principles will help you in any science-related field!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, I am chronically checking email so I will respond quickly!
