Hi! My name is Franklin, and I recently graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Master’s in Computer Science and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. I am also an incoming software engineer at Capital One. My academic and professional background has given me a strong foundation in math, programming, algorithms, machine learning, and software engineering, and I enjoy helping students build confidence in subjects that can often feel intimidating at first.

I tutor students in SAT/ACT Math, introductory programming in Python and Java, AP Computer Science, and data structures. I work with high school and college students, especially those preparing for standardized tests, taking their first computer science course, or trying to strengthen their problem-solving skills. I can also help students understand topics such as recursion, linked lists, trees, basic algorithms, and other concepts that are important for computer science coursework and technical interview preparation.

My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and focused on understanding rather than memorization. I try to meet each student where they are, identify the specific areas causing confusion, and then break problems down into clear steps. For math tutoring, I emphasize recognizing patterns, choosing the right strategy, and avoiding common mistakes. For programming tutoring, I focus on helping students think through code logically, debug effectively, and understand why a solution works instead of simply copying syntax.

Whether a student is trying to raise an SAT or ACT math score, prepare for AP Computer Science, succeed in an introductory college CS course, or feel more comfortable with data structures, I tailor each session to their goals. I am available for summer tutoring from June through August and can offer flexible scheduling.

Approved Subjects

Computer Science

Computer Science

I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, giving me a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, and problem-solving. Through my coursework, I gained experience with core computer science topics such as object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, software design, and machine learning. I have also completed two software engineering internships, where I applied these concepts in real-world engineering environments. I enjoy helping students break down complex CS concepts into clear, manageable steps.
Data Structures

Data Structures

I have a strong background in data structures through my computer science coursework at Vanderbilt University and my experience as a TA for introductory Java programming. I can help students understand core topics such as arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, trees, hash maps, recursion, and algorithmic problem-solving. My tutoring approach focuses on making abstract concepts more intuitive through examples, diagrams, and coding practice. I also bring professional software engineering experience from Capital One, where strong fundamentals in data structures and programming are essential.
Java

Java

At Vanderbilt University, I spent over three years tutoring and supporting students in the introductory Java programming course, ultimately serving as the course’s Head TA. In that role, I helped students build a strong foundation in programming fundamentals, debug their code, and develop confidence in problem-solving. I also currently work as a software engineer at Capital One, where I use a variety of programming languages and technologies, with Java being one of the primary languages in my work.
Python

Python

I have a strong background in Python through my computer science coursework, software engineering internships, and machine learning projects. I have used Python for topics such as data analysis, automation, algorithms, and building machine learning workflows with libraries like pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, and Transformers. My academic background in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics helps me explain both the programming concepts and the problem-solving ideas behind them. I enjoy helping students learn Python in a practical, step-by-step way, whether they are just starting out or working on more advanced projects.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I have extensive experience with SAT Math, having consistently scored 800 on practice exams and earning a perfect 800 on the official SAT Math section. I also graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, giving me a strong academic foundation in problem-solving, quantitative reasoning, and advanced math concepts.
