Na’Zir is a clarinetist and conductor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attends the DePaul University School of Music for studies in Clarinet Performance and Orchestral Conducting. On February 28th, 2017 Na’Zir made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Na’Zir is a clarinetist and conductor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attends the DePaul University School of Music for studies in Clarinet Performance and Orchestral Conducting. For the past three years, Na’Zir has been an apprentice to the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Music Director, Beatrice Affron. He has assisted Maestra Affron in George Balanchine’s production of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Recently he traveled to Europe to participate in the International Institute for Conductors, where he studied with Maestro Ovidiu Balan of the Bacau Philharmonic.
Na’Zir has performed as a clarinetist in many musical ensembles including The Philadelphia Sinfonia, Philadelphia Young Artist Orchestra, Philadelphia All-City Orchestra, PMEA District 12 Band and Orchestra, National Take a Stand Festival Orchestra, and The Curtis Institute Young Artist Program. Currently, he is the clarinetist of the Ramen Wind Quintet of DePaul University.
In 2018, he participated in the All-City Philadelphia Concerto Competition where he placed fourth, performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major K.622 with pianist Hugh Sung. Na’Zir has performed in masterclasses hosted by musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, and the Seattle Symphony. Some of these musicians include Anthony McGill, Ricardo Morales, Stephen Williamson, Jessica Phillips, Tara O’Connor, Demarre McGill, MiMi Stillman, and many more. Na’Zir has also performed solo works by composers such as Francis Poulenc, Oscar Navarro, Beethoven, and Mozart.
