I am currently a rising sophomore in the Penn State Honors College studying criminology, where I’ve continued to build strong skills in writing, analysis, and communication through rigorous coursework. I am currently a rising sophomore in the Penn State Honors College studying criminology, where I’ve continued to build strong skills in writing, analysis, and communication through rigorous coursework. I scored a 35 on the ACT English section, and writing has always been one of my strengths. I also help students with essay writing, focusing on structure, clarity, and helping them better express their ideas.

My experience with standardized testing is a major part of why I tutor today. When I first took an ACT diagnostic, I scored a 21 in English, 23 in math, 17 in reading, and 25 in science, with a 22 composite overall. At the time, the test felt overwhelming, especially reading and timing-based sections. Through consistent practice, targeted strategies, and working with incredible Wyzant tutors who taught me how to recognize question patterns instead of just content, I was able to completely transform my performance. My final ACT score became a 34 composite, with a 35 in English and math, 33 in reading, and 31 in science. That improvement came from learning how the test works and practicing it intentionally, and those are the exact methods I now teach.

In high school, I was a volunteer tutor throughout all four years and later served as president of Buddy Tutoring, where I managed tutors, supported students, and helped expand academic support in my school. That experience taught me how to explain concepts in multiple ways, adapt to different learning styles, and build student confidence.

My tutoring approach is grounded in patience, clarity, and practice-based learning. For standardized tests like the ACT, I focus heavily on repetition, strategy, and recognizing question types, since I’ve seen firsthand how much improvement is possible with the right methods. More broadly, whether I’m helping with test prep or essay writing, my goal is to make strategies accessible and build real confidence in students, because that is exactly what made the difference in my own academic growth.

ACT English

ACT English

My experience with standardized testing is a major part of why I tutor today. I began with a 22 composite ACT, including a 21 in English, and initially struggled with timing and reading-based questions. Through consistent practice, targeted strategies, and learning to recognize recurring question patterns, I improved my score to a 34 composite, including a 35 in English. I now use the same approach—teaching students how the ACT is structured, how to apply efficient strategies, and repeated practice—to help them make similar, measurable gains. The ACT is a test you can easily study and master, I ensure that students are able to do that and bring their score up as high as possible.
English

English

I am an English and writing tutor with a strong background in standardized test preparation, essay development, and reading comprehension, having improved my own ACT English score from a 21 to a 35 through strategic, skills-based learning. I specialize in breaking down grammar rules, rhetorical strategies, and writing structure into clear, repeatable methods that help students build confidence and accuracy. My teaching style emphasizes making English engaging and approachable by combining real skill-building with a focus on enjoyment, helping students actually like what they’re learning rather than just memorizing rules. As a college student, I bring a relatable and personable approach to tutoring, while also being especially attentive to the needs of students with ADHD, dyslexia, and ADD by adapting pacing, explanations, and practice strategies to fit different learning styles.

Vocabulary

I am a vocabulary tutor with a strong background in standardized test preparation and language development, having improved my own ACT performance significantly through strategic word-learning and contextual reading skills. I specialize in helping students master vocabulary through patterns, roots, and real usage rather than rote memorization, making unfamiliar words easier to understand and retain. My teaching style focuses on making vocabulary engaging and enjoyable by connecting words to real contexts, stories, and test strategies so students actually want to learn and remember them. As a college freshman, I bring a relatable and approachable tutoring style, and I am especially experienced in adapting lessons for students with ADHD, dyslexia, and ADD by using structured, focused, and interactive methods that support different learning needs.
