My name is Theresa. I have been an elementary school educator for over 25 years. During that time, I taught mathematics, science, social studies and English Language Arts, which includes reading, writing, and grammar. As a regional instructional specialist in literacy, I worked directly with teachers and principals to ensure that students were receiving quality literacy instruction.
I have been successful in my teaching because of my patience for and understanding of diverse students who need various strategies in order to succeed. I like to make learning fun - always attempting to put a smile on the face of a child. I want children to enjoy learning and feel good about themselves as they learn. Learning should not be an ordeal simply because a concept or idea is not understood.
To ensure mastery, I model for the student, showing exactly how to do it, then work together with the student, continuing to show how and asking questions as we work. Then, I allow the student to work independently to see if what was done was understood. If further instruction is needed, I will provide it.

My meeting with her was very good. I felt I made a good choice picking Mrs. L.! My child said she likes her also and that is important to me!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach elementary (K-6) because this is what I have been doing for the past 27 years. As a classroom teacher of grades 4, 5 and 6, I delivered instruction in all subject areas. As a literacy instructional specialist, I oversaw classroom instruction in a variety of low performing schools and as assistant principal, I monitored instruction and gave professional development to enhance teacher practice.
As an elementary school assistant principal, I supported teachers in preparing their students for state tests. Part of this support were customized study packets that I designed to assist students in mastering their reading and writing skills as well as their math skills. I coordinated a study hall in which students were given one-on-one assistance with homework, which included test taking strategies and how to study.
