My name is Theresa. I have been an elementary school educator for over 25 years. During that time, I taught mathematics, science, social studies and English Language Arts, which includes reading, writing, and grammar. As a regional instructional specialist in literacy, I worked directly with teachers and principals to ensure that students were receiving quality literacy instruction.
I have been successful in my teaching because of my patience for and understanding of diverse students who need various strategies in order to succeed. I like to make learning fun - always attempting to put a smile on the face of a child. I want children to enjoy learning and feel good about themselves as they learn. Learning should not be an ordeal simply because a concept or idea is not understood.
To ensure mastery, I model for the student, showing exactly how to do it, then work together with the student, continuing to show how and asking questions as we work. Then, I allow the student to work independently to see if what was done was understood. If further instruction is needed, I will provide it.
My goal is to instill the love for learning that I have into any student I have the opportunity to work with.
