Math has always been a fascinating subject for me, and an equalizer across various professions and cultures. All disciplines use math in one form or another, so understanding its rules and applications is important for today's students.

As a Cum Laude mathematics graduate, certificated Math Teacher, and tutor for over 40 years, I've helped many middle- and high-school students gain proficiency with math.

Math has always been a fascinating subject for me, and an equalizer across various professions and cultures. All disciplines use math in one form or another, so understanding its rules and applications is important for today's students.

As a Cum Laude mathematics graduate, certificated Math Teacher, and tutor for over 40 years, I've helped many middle- and high-school students gain proficiency with math.

From the first meeting with a student, I establish a "safe" tutoring environment: I don't grade students and I don't judge them. I'm here to help them in those areas where they "just don't get it."

Students have obligations, too: 1) They have to tell me what they don't understand. 2) They have to practice the concepts and skills.

Working this way has helped my students improve their grades and their confidence.

In addition to review and practice, we discuss the student's goals and career options so that I can describe how math could be applied in those jobs. My careers inside and outside of classroom teaching, in addition to my involvement in many community-wide projects, enables me to relate real-world situations where math is essential.

I'm flexible about where to meet. The location should be a quiet space to minimize distractions. I can work at your house, at a nearby library, or you can come to my office in Red Bank.

I have taught and/or tutored high school math courses for almost 20 years. Algebra 1 is one of my favorites because it introduces the student to the idea of relationships between objects. Algebra 1 is the foundation for all subsequent math courses, so confidence in Algebra 1 concepts is vital. I have the experience to help your child gain understanding and confidence in this course.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 serves two purposes: 1) it pulls together the skills from Algebra 1 and Geometry and 2) introduces extensions of those earlier concepts. From my many years of teaching and tutoring Algebra 2, I understand the challenges students can face in this course. At the same time, I try to use real-world scenarios to clarify where Algebra 2 concepts would be involved. Let me help you gain confidence and skill in this math course!
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a core subject in the math curriculum. It focuses on the physical properties of objects and their links to algebra concepts. Higher math curricula often rely on knowledge of geometry. I've taught geometry many times and like to emphasize its use in everyday life as well as its links to other math subjects.

Prealgebra

Algebra is the foundation for math, science, and statistics investigations. Pre-Algebra introduces the foundational concepts used in all higher level math courses. I'm well versed in the Algebra concepts and can help your child understand them using clear language and real-life examples.

Pre-Calculus deepens your understanding of and skills with various types of equations and graphs that are a lead-in to Calculus. I have taught Pre-Calculus and Calculus for years and understand how the features of these courses expand your array of equation types that you use in your chosen field.

Patient and nonjudgemental tutor!

My daughter was very nervous about having her tutor session as she is worried she would look "stupid".
