I have always loved learning and teaching. The process can be exciting and rewarding for all involved. For those needing assistance or some serious help, I accept the assignment happily. I have taught college writing at all levels [Freshmen, Advanced, Repeating, Foreign Language; also, Senior Thesis] My original career (headed to U of Penn for a Masters and Ph.D. in Literature) was interrupted by raising 3 children, but I later found my way into combining creativity with psychotherapy. My Masters degree in psychology focused on Movement, Dance, and Drama Therapy. Then I developed expertise in working with Dreams and Meditation. My Ph.D. focused on both anecdotal and historical perspective. In the midst of my work with individuals and groups, I taught at two local colleges and taught writing at all levels. I tutored students throughout these years--to be available for tutoring was part of a professor's job. With five others, I also designed the PRAXIS at Educational Testing Service for those planning to teach English. I have learned a great deal throughout all of these activities, and enjoy inspiring students to get excited about their own work.
I currently continue to read and share in a bi-weekly "Great Books" discussion group. Most people who learn to appreciate good writing become passionate about reading and learning. I spent many hours detailing appropriate grammatical rules for my college students learning to improve their writing. Everyone should cultivate a wide vocabulary because it adds a richness and humor to their self-expression. In all areas of learning: practice, keep it simple and keep practicing. Your practice pays off. From learning the basics to exploring the depths of your tasks, teachers can make an enormous difference in our lives.
