Karibu! I'm a native Nebraskan, with a global perspective of over ten years in international education. I currently teach at an IB school in Germany, and hold a current Masters teaching certificate in Iowa. I'm also an IB Examiner for English Paper 2 and Extended Essay. My classroom experience includes teaching English grades 6-12+. I've taught the IB English curriculum and assessments included the Personal Project, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge Essay, English B, and English Language and Literature. I've also coached students through the college essay writing process, instruction in AP Lit and AP Language, taught English/Language arts, and taught ENG 101-102 college writing/composition at University of Nebraska-Kearney. My students have gone on to many universities including: Princeton, MITT, Yale, Brown, Stanford, and Cornell.

I love empowering the students I teach to become better and more independent writers. I teach writing from the perspective of both a writer and a teacher. My writing has won awards (Best Humanities Thesis at the university, a graduate assistantship) and I've published several journals and academic book reviews. My teaching style is to challenge students while coming alongside them to grow in an encouraging way. I try to bring the combination of appropriate challenge and encouragement into my tutoring. I also believe learning should be practical, so I do my best to structure lessons to be transferable to other subjects.

Excellent tutor

Tanya is very good. She always sent emails after lessons to summarize what has been done during the lesson, and followed up by offering to answer related questions offline. This one-on-one tutorial has filled the gap of personal interaction because my son has studied offline for over a year. She is also very knowledgeable and pointed out what's not been done perfectly in my son's essay. Overall, very good.
