Hello, my name is Mei, I have been a Chinese teacher for years with experience working with all kinds of students from kindergarten through high school, not mention my adult students that i have tutored. Some of my most satisfying teaching experiences have come from helping students with an “I-hate-Chinese” attitude become actively engaged in their Chinese studies.
I truly believe that there is nothing one cannot learn, and that with the right guidance, anyone can learn efficiently and enjoyably.  Simply put, my teaching goal is this: not only will I help students learn the mechanics of the Chinese language itself, but I will also help students see what they can do with the language. My teaching philosophy lies on two key points:
First, I will deliver my Chinese language expertise in a way that stimulates the students’ interests in learning Chinese, so that they can achieve more with less stress and frustration. This includes preparing materials that fit the students and their particular interests, using creative learning methods with minimum lecturing to help students engage in an active and effective learning experience, and emphasizing language use in “real life” situations. Second, I will enable students to comprehend and retain the Chinese that they learn by pacing the learning process in a way that will help them improve both easily and consistently.
Since moving to the U.S. two decades ago, I have obtained a master’s degree in Biology from Boston College, and I also worked as a biologist in pharmaceutical companies for over 12 years. After I found my passion for teaching Chinese, I got my master degree in teaching Chinese as a second language from Nanjing University, a top university in China, and work as a Chinese teacher/tutor for over 10 years. I have also raised two kids in U.S. and I understand the differences between two cultures, as well as how students here work.
