I am an incoming senior at Furman University in South Carolina studying Spanish and Politics and International Affairs. I started learning Spanish 6 years ago and I have only grown more passionate about the language and connected cultures as I have continued in my studies. In Fall 2024, I spent four months in Santiago, Chile in a language-immersion program. I lived with a host family that only spoke Spanish, and also took classes exclusively in Spanish. This experience not only helped me improve my proficiency in the language, but it also allowed me to further explore Chilean history, politics, and culture. I am currently applying for an English Teaching Assistantship through the Fulbright Scholarship, and hope to be placed in Spain for the 2026-27 year, upon which I plan on attending law school.
Throughout high school I worked as a math tutor for a middle-schooler, and I also continued tutoring middle-schoolers throughout my time at college in a variety of subjects such as English, Math, and Science. I firmly believe that when in comes to language tutoring a hands-on, conversational approach is the best way to learn. Additionally, consuming media in Spanish, especially music, has been extremely helpful in my own Spanish learning. I plan on incorporating historical and cultural learning projects and activities to keep students engaged, while also expanding their understanding and knowledge of the Spanish speaking world.
