I hold a Ph.D. in History from the University of Michigan (2026) and a B.A. in History with a minor in French from UCLA, where I graduated cum laude with College Honors. I am now an M.Div. student at Princeton Theological Seminary. My research is on modern Europe and the Middle East, and I work daily in French and Persian as a translator and editor for a political magazine, so the languages I tutor are ones I actually use.
I have taught college students for eight years. At Michigan I designed and taught my own writing-intensive history seminar, led discussion sections for seven lecture courses on European and Middle Eastern history, and held weekly one-on-one office hours where most of the real teaching happened. I also spent four years as an instructional consultant at Michigan's Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, observing more than fifty classrooms and coaching instructors on how students learn. That work shaped how I tutor: I start by finding out what a student can already do, plan each session around one skill they should be able to use on their own by the end, and check for understanding by having them explain the idea back to me rather than assuming it landed.
I tutor history (U.S., European, and world, including AP), academic and expository writing, college application essays, English and literature, French, Persian, and beginning-to-intermediate German, for high school and college students and adults. With writing, I work on the draft in front of us: we find where the argument goes soft, fix that paragraph together, and then the student applies the same move to the next one. With languages, I build lessons around reading and conversation about things the student cares about, with grammar introduced when it solves a problem they have just run into. I am patient, organized, and reliable, and I would be glad to talk about what you or your student needs.
