Hi, I’m Laurel! I received my BA in English from Montclair State University in New Jersey. I began tutoring in all areas of English while in high school, continued tutoring through college, and started tutoring professionally upon graduation.
After contemplating majoring in English Education, I realized I preferred individual tutoring over teaching a classroom because I could focus on what works best for the student, not the masses.
I became an English Exam Prep tutor at a widely known and highly praised educational company where I held the titles of Lead Exam Prep Tutor, Exam Prep Coordinator, and Assistant Center Director / Exam Prep Director. To maintain credibility, every two years I retook the Evidence-based Reading and Writing section of the SATs where I averaged over 700 points out of a perfect score of 800, and surpassed the company’s required 600 points.
My teaching style is personalization. Combining what my students say works best for them and my own observations, I create an approach that is individualized to each student. There is no such thing as asking the same question too many times. I believe being honest and realistic (on both sides) are vital to a successful student/tutor relationship. And as much as possible, a good time should be had!
