I often have students who start with an attitude of "I can't," "This is just too hard," or my personal favorite, "I'm just not good at (math/reading/English/etc.)" Those same students usually leave saying things like, "I can't believe how easy you made this," "I never thought I would get this, and I do! I'm a pro!"...

For 3 years, I served as the Math Curriculum Coordinator in a public charter elementary school while my Kindergarten classes outperformed every other class in our 6 school network, in mathematics. Later, I moved into second grade and then 4th grade, where again my classes outperformed grade level counterparts across the network. In addition to the 14 years I've been teaching math as part of the common core curriculum, I have privately tutored students aged 5-15 in Mathematics (among other subjects). You may not love math, but I do, and that means I can easily explain concepts and strategies until we find one that works for you! My goal is that you are confident and comfortable with procedures and methods with which you can be successful over and over. You don't have to love math, but I know how much better you'll feel if you work with me to understand it and get comfortable with it. I have a ton of alternative methods if the ones you're learning in school aren't making sense for you. Students often ask me why their teachers don't show them these "easier" methods in school, but I remind them that as long as we learn them together, they can teach their teachers!
